Question about Shure SM7B Microphone

1 Answer

I tried hooking the microphone up to use on garage band. However, it is not picking up sound. On garage band it says that it is hooked up and it gives it as an option to use in the settings. But, it's not picking up any sound.

I have the very same mic. It is a dynamic mike and therefore does not require phantom power. These are known for their very low signal output. I have made a small booster to boost the signal for mine but you should be getting some sound out of yours. I would try another known-to-be-good mic in its place. You can check out the great sounbd of this mic at where I use it only.

How do i get the recording onto my mac?

if you can connect via USB try that first. Your computer will see it as a storage device and give it a drive letter. you can open it up and selet all the audio files and move them to a folder (you assign) on your computer. If you don't have a way to hook up via USB you can reord the audio file into your computer by hooking up to the earphone jack on the recorder and the to the Pink audio in jack on your mac. open the software that you use for recording audio (garage band for example, or sound recorder). you will have to do this is "real" time however so if you have a lot of recordinng on the device it may take awhile to get the all transferred.

Sounds like the pickup roller is worn, you could try giving it a little more grip by giving it a clean or in more severe worn parts that are out of warranty i have used a fine sandpaper to rough the surface a little, just be sure not to leave any particulates on the roller. to remove the part simply locate the big dark rubber wheel at the back of the paper feed, with the front door down and the toner cartridge out, to my recollection the rubber part should be attached via a half moon shaped plastic insert that clips in at the top and hooks in at the bottom. so get your fingers behind the roller at the top and give it a pull and it should come away and then unhook, then give it a clean or find a better area of rubber on the item and swivel it round to that point, then hook it back to the bottom hooks on the bracket and push rearwards to clip it back onto the bracket at the top. hope that solves it, if not use some rubber bands around it to add a little more grip, shame to chuck these things away,

There is no way to dump the data from the ICD-PX720 to a Mac. However, you can hook a 1/8" stereo cable, male at both ends, to the PX 720 and the line-in inputs on your Mac. Open Garage Band and record what you have on the PX720 in real time to Garage Band. I have been doing this with our church radio program, although I am considering junking the Sony and getting something that is actually compatible.

Hooking up speakers.

Speakers do not normally connect to a microphone jack.

But if it has a headphone jack usually has a symbol like one of these.

Then you could use that as the output to your speakers.

also if it has phono outputs on the back similar to these

and they are marked nearby as OUTPUT you can also use those

Quality of sound will vary depending on the speaker quality itself.

if you have surround and any of the outputs as shown then with a little care it is still possible to hook up to that.

Don't try to connect INPUT sockets to speaker it will just not work.

You didn't give a specific model so I have only been able to give a generic answer.

Hook up all components to rock band

The game should have come with a 4 port USB hub. If not, you can go over to radio shack and get 1 for 2 bucks.
