Craftsman (american yard products) use alot of same parts for craftsman, husqvarna, poulan, and other brands if it doesnt have those parts on it you should be able to install starter as it is and be good to go.

I have a 27hp Kohler 54 in cut Craftsman ryder and the seat switch plug has been removed. I just have 3 wires. How do I wire this to a new seat switch. It is a grey 4 prong switch.

Go to
Find the model number on your mower and enter it on the sears site. You should find a schematic there along with parts lists and diagrams,
My guess is that one of the three wires is connected to ground a second to ignition to kill the engine if you are off seat and the third to the starting relay to allow the starter to work if you are on the seat.
On the new plug two of the pins will probably be connected together. (The Ground)

Why Craftsman riding mower wont turn over & only makes click sound when turn key on??

1.try jumping the battery with your car battery. I have had same issue in the past with a brand new battery.
2. Try spraying starter fluid into the carb while cranking. If it starts or at least tries to start (assuming cranking is fixed), you have a fuel problem. Again, when I first tried to fire my Used mower, had to use starter fluid to get it to start the first time, but never since.

INstalled new battery on Craftsman Riding mower. Now the motor wont start or even turn over.

You may have shorted out one of the wires going into the battery, blowing a fuse, or damaging the starter or the starter solenoid.

Craftsman ZTS 7500 dies when engage blades or when engage transmission

check the "kill switch" they are usually located in the seating area. it senses for pressure or seat angle and will kill the mower if nobody is sitting on the mower. Good Luck

We can't get a spark

The safety features on the riding lawnmowers can be hard to troubleshoot.
1.The starter should NOT operate when blades are engaged.
2.Spark will not occur without a rider ON the seat with the blades engaged,
3.Spark will function with the parking brake on (on some models)
Theirs two wires coming out from under the engine top cover,(for a Briggs)
One is for charging and the other is the kill switch.
If you remove the kill switch wire then attempt to start and the magneto is good
you will have spark.
DO NOT use mower without the safety functions connected.
If you have spark with the kill wire removed then the wiring and /or switches are faulty
Make sure the plug is against the ground or it will not spark.
We can go from here.
Good Luck

Riding mower stalled out while riding will not start

It sounds like either the seat switch went bad or one of the other safty switches failed easiest way to test this is to dis-connect all wires to the motor, run a jumper form the positive post of the battery to the switch side of the stater solonoid to see if the motor turns over with everything else dis-connected if it starts start connecting wires one at a time until you get to the one tat causes the motor to quit then you have the problem circuit. It sounds to me like you either have a bad safty switch, bad key switch, bad Ground, or a faulty starter solonoid or maybe even a defective battery. Hope this helps Don

Difficult to start -- bad kill switch?

You have 3 safety switches located on the tractor, any one of which can cause the tractor to not crank over.
I assume the deck lever is not engaged, you are sitting in the seat and you push the clutch down when trying to start?
Start by lifting the seat and disconnecting the seat switch, push the clutch in and try to start.
Start there and we'll go from there.
