Re: Printer comminication/Driver install

First of all, since its a USB printer, chk if the computer prompts " New Hardware found " ( am assuming you are using Win XP ).

Since you said computer will not communicate with printer, you have to make sure you have the CD that came along with the printer , installed in your computer

Let me know what you see.

Every time i try to send a fax it show comm error

Try reinstalling the driver and the utilities that came with the printer from Add/Remove Programs. Make sure the printer doesn't show up in 'Control Panel->Printers and Faxes' anymore. If it's still there, delete it.
Next, disconnect the printer and start installing the software. There are certain printer drivers that must be installed with the printer disconnected. The install program asks you to connect the printer to the computer when the time is right.

My landmark x1240 donot print at all.

Download the driver from the lexmark website.
You should turn off the printer and the computer.
Unplug the printer. Turn on the computer. Bring it all the way up. Turn off the computer. Plug in the Lexmark. Turn on both machines. Install the printer driver.

No comms with my PC

Assuming this is a USB printer the first thing is to insure the USB port works that the printer is plugging into. Insure you have updated the USB drivers. Also you must install the printers driver FIRST as often it instructs the computer how to connect to the printer. Try both of these and let me know what happens.

Lexmark Z611 printer, on off light flashes one long then two short, will not print anything

That is a code for comm fail and is associated with the driver. Go to start right click on my computer or computer if you have Vista then go to hardware tab then to device manager, from there go to the printer line and click on it. Your printer should be there if not you need to back out and go to control panel then to printers and see if your printer is there. If it is right click on the printer and go to properties then go to the driver tab and make sure it is in there. Too make sure you are installed correctly go back and remove the printer from the system then re-install it using the manufacturers software. There is one other possibility if you have the printer installed more than once remove the additional printer they will conflict with each other. Be mucho blessed... Mark

My printer has a problem communicating with my windows Vista computer

Please check to make sure your cables are all plugged in all the way. If one of the cables is loose (power or data (at either your computer or your printer)) it could be causing this problem.

ALPS Printer MD1000 Driver

Several things about these printers.......

1. Do NOT use the MS XP driver for these - it has limited functionality. Download the Alps driver, which you can find in the files section at the Alps YahooGroup (
2. The printer requires bi-directional comms in order to feed back the printer status to the computer. While this is not an absolute requirement, it means that without bi-dir comms, the error light will flash, and you won't know what the problem is.
3. The driver is hardcoded to only communicate bi-directionaly with Alps virtual LPT ports - run this with a non-Alps cable (And all of the cables on FleaBay are non-Alps), and you will not be able to monitor the printer status.

Now, how to install.....

1. Plug in the USB cable to the computer (But not the printer), and let it install. Reboot if required (Unlikely)
2. Install the Alps driver you downloaded fron the Alps YahooGroup. Reboot if required. If you now look at Printers in Control Panel, you will see a nice Alps printer there, waiting to be used. Make a note of what it named.
3. Plug in the printer and turn it on. XP will now tell you it has found new hardware, and install the MS driver. Reboot if required
4. Go back to Printers in Control Panel. You will now see you have TWO Alps printers! The MS driver will be called something like "Alps MD-1000 (MS)". Rename (DON'T delete!) this driver to something like "Alps MD-1000 (DO NOT USE)". If you delete it, it will come back to haunt you every time you switch on the printer, and screw up your settings.
5. Open the properties page of the driver you made a note of in step 2 (Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes -> right click on printer, and select "Properties"), and click on the "Ports" tab.
6. Check the checkbox next to the port created for your USB-// cable, and uncheck the other box that will be checked.
7. Uncheck "Enable bidirectional support"
8. Click on the "Advanced" tab
9. Select the "Print directly to the printer" radio button
10. Click on the "Print Processor" button
11. Select ALMD224S as the Print processor and select RAW(FF AUTO) as the Default data type
12. Click Apply.
