Sony Cybershot Model DSC-S600 error message

By Generalsdad on Nov 13, 2007

" "
I get an error message E:61-20, on the view screen, and a buzzing noise when the camera is turned on. Following the manual, I re-initialized the camera, but it made no difference. The camera continues to take good pictures. Tried, restarting with differing batteries, and with and without a memory card, but no difference.

Same Problem

-   I have the exact same problem as described by Generalsdad and the other users. How do I fix it? Must I bring it to Sony? -   Guest

-   My camera does the buzzing noise when first turned on, I think it is the automatic lens the error code E:60:20 flashes on my screen. I can still take decent pics but I am afraid it will be only a matter of time before iit dies. What is going on???-   Ladyseahare

-   My camera, exact same model and everything, is doing the same thing, same error message and the buzzing noise. Still takes decent pictures. I have used the same attempts to fix, new batteries, re-initializing etc.-   Guest

-   I seem to have the same problem as others. A whirring noise when i turn on, delay in access, then E:61:29 flashes. All functions seem OK, except I think the zoom is less. Of course Sony suggest re-initializing but this makes no difference. Surely someone has an answer!-   Guest

Solution #2 by member scriverb says the viewfinder zoom gears are misaligned. Indeed, the zoom works on the LCD but not the viewfinder. The suggestion of smacking the camera while it's buzzing didn't work for me, though.
