MEMORY CARD

I bought a memory card to my camera and when I incert it the camera have a rare sound and turn off. Every time I turn on the camera, show me a window to format it and if I press yes, do the sound and one more time turn off. The memory card is a Sandisk SD 2GB CARD. Please help me. Thanks. Apprenticeit happend with me .
this camera was degined to use SD card by max 32 MB or may be less.unless there is a softwear to allow the cam to accept the bigger capicty like SD 1 or 2 GB
