How do I fix bubbles in primer and harder to start?
Blower is taking 3 - 5 pulls to start when it used to take 1-2. I pulled the spark plug and it has changed to very light shade of tan and was previously a darker shade, indicating a leaner mixture. There are air bubbles in the primer and takes 10x to remove most, but not all bubbles. Primer does not appear to have any leaks.
A quick check of the fuel lines in the tank look OK, there is no obvious rot. Blower is 4 1/2 years old with 160 hrs. Should I just change out the primer bulb and fuel lines to eliminate possibility of small leak? Any other typical places to check this blower with a walbro wya79 carb?
Re: How do I fix bubbles in primer and harder to start?
You might want to open the carburetor and clean it out. Sometimes dirt particles get past the air filter and find their way into it. It screws up the fuel mixture and can make it harder to start.

check that the stop circuit is allowing spark at the plug
check that the engine is not flooded form over use of the primer
IT actually squirts fuel into the engine if over used when the primer is full
It's a 2 stroke & it's relatively new. as long as you didn't score the piston by neglecting to add oil to the fuel mixture, the most likely problem is fuel issues. It only takes a month or 2 to have ethanol fuel absorb enough moisture to ruin the fuel mix. Return all carb settings to original settings. Empty your tank, get rid of your fuel, remix with NON-ETHANOL FUEL MIXED WITH A PREMIUM SYNTHETIC 2-STROKE OIL, such as echo or husquvarna. Purge all the fuel from your lines and primer. Remove the spark plug & pull the cord a few times to dry out the cylinder, run a flame under the spark plug to dry it out. Add 3 drops of fuel mix to the cylinder then replace the plug. Put it on full choke & pull 1 time. Then on 1/2 choke pull to start in 1 or 2 pulls. Still won't start; replace plug & air filter. Let it warm up for 5-10 seconds then turn choke off.
1) Check if it fire! If not! change spark plug!
2) Fill fuel tank, Pull spark plug ou, turn upside down chainsaw, if fuel drip from the cynlinder than you need to change carb gasket.
3) check if the bubble primer is not puncture. If so need to remplace it!
4) Clean the gunk!
HELLO. DO YOU HAVE THE USER'S MANUL.? IF NOT HERE IS WHAT YOU CAN TRY.(1) FIRST . TAKE OFF THE AIR CLEANER. AND CLEAN THE FILTER.. USE A LITTLE DISH SOAP LIKE DAMW.DISHSOAP AND WATER. ONLY. WASH & RINCE OUT.! THEN DRY IT OUT. (2) THING TO DO IS PULL THE SPARK PLUG OUT. AND REPLACE WITH THE SAME AS WHAT IT IS IN IT. (3) OR U CAN CLEAN IT WITH A TOOTH BRUSH & A LITTLE GAS ON IT. OR STARTING FLUID ON THE BRUSH .CLEAN IT THEN LET IT DRY OUT. AFTER THEY ARE DRY. (4) PULL ON STARTING ROPE WITH OUT THE PLUG IN IT. 3- 4 TIME'S . THEN (5) WITH THE AIR CLEANER OFF & THE CHOKE OPEN. LOOK IN THE CARBURATOR AND PUSH THE PRIMER BLUB. TO SEE IF IT IS GETTING TO THE CARB.? YOU SHOULD SEE IT OR HEAR IT OR SMELL IT.? IF THERE IS TO MUCH.&. IF THERE IS.! THEN PULL THE STARTING ROPE AGAN 3 TIME'S . (6) THEN PUT A VERRY SMALL AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE PLUG HOLE AND PUT THE SPARK PLUG BACK IN. & WITH THE AIR CLEANER OFF PUT THE CHOKE TO THE STARTSPOT.. PRIME IT 2-3 TIME'S WITH YOUR PRIMER BLUB AND TRY TO START. IT. IF NOT (7) PULL THE PLUG OUT AGAIN , AND PULL THE ROPE AGAIN 3 TIME'S . (8) THEN GET STARTING FLUID AND SQUIRT SOME IN THE PLUG HOLE & PUT THE PLUG BACK IN. ..THEN SQUIRT A LITTLE IN THE CARB & TRY TO START IT . IT SHOULD WORK. . IF YOU DO THE SOLUTION'S FOR THE PROBLEM YOU ARE HAVING THANK YOU . REMBER TO VOTE FOR ME THANK U.?
Sounds like your flooding the engine; I did the same thing. Wait a while to let the gas drain back to the tank. Use your primer bulb once and your choke for only ONE pull; then shut off the choke. Pull start without the choke 2-3 times and it should start.
Before you try to start it, push the primer bubble on the side 3 or 4 times, then pull the choke all the way out. On poulans they can be tricky. When pulling the choke button out, make sure it does not go back in. After you pull the crank rope and you hear it "hit" push the choke back in and pull the crank rope again. It should start after that. If it still won't start, check for a faulty spark plug.
1st: stale fuel...won't burn...regardless of spark... 2nd: watch primer when it comes back up, it must "fill" with fuel...a tiny bubble is o.k. If not, carb replacement... 3rd: Flood to hell and back...remove the plug, pull 5 or 10 times to clear the gas...dry off plug...install...hold trigger wide open, and pull..NO PRIMER
if this works, go back and review starting procedure
You may be correct take out the spark plug and then reconnect it to the wire, then place it near a bolt on your machine and then pull the cord if you see a spark at the plug it is good if no spark your coil is shot, make sure the on off switch is to the on position when you try this. Also do not hold spark plug with your hand you will be zapped if your coil is good!!!!
If the engine is sticky ie harder to pull it might have to be pulled apart new piston and honing of cylinder. not difficult just a pain. If it doesn't seem any harder to pull, Drain all of the unmixed fuel. Put a few drops of 2cylinder oil in the spark plug hole and pull the starter a few times with the plug out of it. Put a few more drops in repeat. Replace the plug (new plug) Put in mixed fuel prime the system cross your fingers and it should start up for you.
You cannot flood the engine by pushing the primer bulb too much, unless the hoses are hooked up backwards. The primer does not push gas to the carb, it sucks gas through the carb and returns it to the tank. Top barb on primer is the hose coming from the return side of the carb and the bottom fitting is the hose going to the return fitting on the tank. Look inside tank, it is the one without the filter on it, just a flange with a hole in the center.
If you can see gas and air bubbles moving through the primer and into the tank the hoses are on correctly. If you see bubbles going in the correct direction and then reversing when you remove your finger from the bulb, then the check valves in the primer may be bad. Replace primer.
When you say the primer "gets hard to mash", do you mean it is hard to push in or is it very slow to refill and return to the home position? If it is hard to push in and the bulb is full of gas and the hoses are on correctly then there must be a plug in the line going to the tank or the vent in the gas cap is not working. If it does not return, then it is most likely a plugged filter, plugged line from the tank to the carb, plugged screen inside the carb or a stuck needle valve. The primer is creating a slight vacuum to pull the gas through the carb, which is what the carb does when the engine is running. If there is a full or partial restiction on the supply circuit neither the primer nor the carb can pull enough gas for the engine to run. May need to disassemble carb and clean out any varnish, gunk or plugged ports/jets. Use spray carb cleaner. May want to think about a diaphagm and gasket kit if you do it yourself. If you do not feel confident in taking apart the carb, then take to a repair shop.
The above blower is a Husqvarna 150bt. The system omitted this.
