So you are saying the dryer will run normal but the drum will not turn. That is caused by a broken drum belt. It may have just come off but that doesn't usually happen too often. Probably broken belt.

I have a Samsung electric dryer dv400 that the drum doesn't turn when you press start. It just hums but doesn't turn.

Check the blower housing to be sure there are no foreign objects blocking the blower wheel from spinning, also see if you can turn the drum by hand, but don't spin it more than a foot or two as the belt may come off.

Westinghouse Electric Dryer, Drum doesn't turn on start up, if your spin drum and close door it will start,

Either something is binding the blower wheel up or the motor is bad. The best thing is to take the front of the machine off to access the blower wheel to verify ifanything is indeed binding it.IF not read the next section.
If you can turn the drum and then the dryer starts you have a bad motor. The way the dryer works is when you initially push the start button, electricity is sent to the start winding, or stator, of the motor. This will in turn start the motor turning. From there the stator will drop out of the electrical process and at the same time the run winding, or rotor, will take over and the motor will continie to run. Your stator is damaged, has a burn spot, etc so by you turning the drum, the belt around the drum is moved which is attached to the motor pulley. You basically take the place of the stator. Long story short, you have a bad motor.

Ld lg3788w gas dryer drum won't turn

not a good model number, most likely you have a broken belt as long as it starts, heats but the drum doesn't spin,if you get a buzzing sound and it doesn't start you could have something stuck in the blower wheel, the motor is jammed or the motor is bad,you can open the door, push the door switch in,spin the drum with your other hand and have someone push the start button,if it starts you have a bad motor.

The dryer turns on but the drum doesn't turn, it spins when I manually do it?? Could it be a broken belt?

No most likely your motor is starting to seize up if you can use your hand to spin the drum while holding the dryer switch down and pressing the start button and this causes your drum to spin then the windings on the inside of the motor have become weak and you would need to change the motor in the unit. And if you do order a motor for the unit you should also order a new blower wheel as well because the wheel is made out of plastic and usually when you try to remove the blower wheel from the motor from the rear of the machine 8 out of 10 times the wheel will break because it has been attached to the motor for so long. If you have any further questions message me back and please also remember when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation Thanks Rick
p.s on the other hand if you can hear the motor running but drum doesnt spin then yes this would be a broken belt issue with you unit

The dryer is plugged in and the circuts seem to work however the dryer is making a humming noise but it will not turn on fully.

what do you mean it won't fully turn on?do you mean the motor won't run because usually when it humms you either have a bad motor or something is jammed and stopped the motor from spinning.try this, open the door, with one hand hold the door switch in and with the other hand spin the drum, have someone else push the start button while you do this,if it starts the motor is bad,if you can't spin the drum something could be stuck in the blower wheel or the belt broke and could of jammed up the motor but it sounds like you have a bad motor.let me know what you find and next time send the brand name and model number.

Dryer turns on but does not start when i push the start button. The timer comes on all the buttons light up, light is on inside dryer, but does not start just makes a sound when i hit the start button

if it's a humming sound the motor is bad or something is jammed keeping the motor from spinning.open the dryer door and move the drum by hand if the drum can't be moved the belt could be jammed on something or there's something stuck in the blower wheel.the blower wheel is behind the duct that the lint filter slides into.if you can move the drum then you most likely have a bad motor, try spinning the drum and push the door switch in and have someone else push the push to start button and see if the dryer will start,if the motor has a flat spot it could start like this.let me know what you find

Drum drive/motor growling, also very brief repeated hesitation audible

Dale you are correct, the dryer has a part starting to fail. If you remove the top and shift the cabinet the noise may increase or decrease. If this happens, then the rear panel is bent in that supports the rear bushing. You can replace that to resolve this. If the noise doesn't change, I suggest you check the blower, Sometimes the blower will spin freely on the motor shaft and cause a noise. Since this blower wheel also cools the motor, it could be spinning. Try removing the blower and add a washer behind it to tighten it to the motor shaft. This is just a press fit blower wheel. If that doesn't resolve the issue, then replace the blower wheel. Hope this helps.
