The unit was moved for a party. The normal speaker wire was not long enough and a lighter gage speaker cord was attached. After that the unit does not turn on.
Possible that a speaker short may have damaged one of your output channels. When that happens it is not common for the receiver to shut down to prevent further damage to other components.
Thanks Richie 46, the unit is only 18 months old unfortunately the warrant was for only 1 year. I have an Pioneer SA-5300 stereo amp which I have had for over 35 years and works fine, I only bought the VSX-522-K receiver so my daughter could play her iPod through it. Looks to me like new Pioneer equipment is grossly inferior to the old equipment.
Older gear was certainly heavier and in some ways better because more discrete components were used and more fixable by the average DIY er. Newer stuff is all ICS and boards - all you can do is replace the suspect board and hope you nailed it. If not, you are stuck with a new part that did no good. On a positive note, electronic gear has gotten really inexpensive so that now it is replaceable, not repairable.
P.S. I refuse to get rid of any of my old gear - and since I always bought the highest quality stuff, it still outperforms the stuff out there today. Might not look as snazzy but it outperforms. So...........
