Check the Relay in the main fuse box that controls the interior etc, your mirrors may be on this Circuit also,I think it might be a time delay relay and drop[s out over a certain time.Check your user manual to determine which relay is for the interior lights/Dome etc.If it was your door switch it more than likely would stick on or off ,this sound like it is timed .I your are using WD 40 it's a temporary fix,it gets rid of rust, but doesn't really lubricated the switch itself.Try a Silicone base product ,it will lubricated the mechanical part of the switch and keep it free to slide back and forth.
Making sure interior light swith is off and spraying the latch is a good start
A lot of times the switch can't be reached while spraying it through the latch
It turns off after 15 minutes as a back up system to prevent the battery from nearing down
You may need to remove the door panel to actually access the switch and the wd10 cleaning can work for a period of time but a new switch is probably needed

SOURCE: Dome light and outside mirror lights stay on
if your door ajar light stays on, spray some wd-40 into the latch and work it a few times. the sensors tend to get stuck and a little wd-40 (or other lubricant) frees it up pretty good. A simpler check would be to make sure that the over head lights are turned off on the dash!!!
