No problem!
First if you don't have an owner's manual you can download a copy free HERE

Be sure to read all of it...it's got great info to get you comfortable with all the controls of your scanner.

Secondly you'll need local radio frequencies for your area.
Do a google.com search enter "radio frequencies" and also the name of your city, county and state.
You'll find people may have posted lists of frequencies for your area.

Print out the lists and then by following the step by steps in the owner's manual, enter each frequency into your scanner .

Once you've got them entered... you'll be ready to scan!
For understanding the 10-code language used, do a google search for "10-codes" and you should be able to find a list of definitions... They'll also use alot of local abreviations for street names and locations and those will be understood more as you listen to your local calls for a while.
