Looking at a Pioneer SE-M631 earphone which has 3.5mm stereo mini plug connection for tv but will that connect to front of system phones connecting point?
As an addition to Tom's answer:
The two main headphone connector types are the 3,5mm jackplug (the one that fits in most mp3-players and cellphones) and the 6,3mm common headphone jackplug.
Testimonial: "Thanks for this, my system is about 15 years old so which is likelier? What do the different sizes mean? i.e. are they the diameter of the connecting hole?"

The system I want to connect to is an Aiwa Z-L500 cd stereo system.
Thanks for this. My system is about 15 years old so which typeis it likely to be? What are the sizes, width across the connecting point???
I did an online search for a manual of your audio system and found one. This set has a 6,3 mm headphone input.
