ecu to engine loom fault is very unusual
save time and money
ring a VW wrecker and ask for a used engine bay harness out of a similar polo

because you have unplugged the connection under the seat it is indicating that the seat belt is not done up
check with a service center for a fix so that you can connect up that wire

The recommendation is to get a new one & have it reprogrammed. ... Is the airbag control module a normal wear item or should I expect that it would last the .... easily shipped, and you have the scanner that can reset any faults it may come with. ... In Europe the European Parliament have forced vehicle manufacturers to provide repair information to basically anyone who has need of it, principally independent and fleet repairers. They ruled it unfair the vehicle warranty depended on in-house service and repairs.

The vehicle manufacturers instructed their dealers to be unhelpful and then set up pay-per-view websites to provide the required information.
You might have some luck there.

Autodata and similar are likely to have partial wiring diagrams and also the Haynes repair manual.

Take it to a mechanic. It sounds like your Airbag Control Module is bad. Do not attempt to fix it yourself, airbag systems are dangerous.

Check out faxon auto literature. They list the original VW service manual for your car.It should have the wiring diagram that you need but you could confirm that with them before you bought it. I've used them befor and had excellent service. Hope this helps.

I removed all 3 switches from driver and passenger door, which is really easy with a flat head screw driver. took them completely apart, very carefully, with a small screwdriver out of a christmas cracker. put them back together again and 2 switches started working, so I put 1 in the drivers side and 1 in the passengers side so now my drivers door window opens and I lean over to open the passenger door. cool, no money spent...yet ;o)

buy a repair manuel from a parts store. Check to see that it has the wiring diagram in the manuel.
