Could be switch on back of ignition lock?
Fuel pump turns on? Switch sounds good. Check the starter solenoid. By the way, I have a 1994 GMC Sonoma, and it has a V6-4.3 Liter engine. It's just like your S10. You're going to love removing your starter! (Remove exhaust, take out the engine mount bolts, jack the engine up a little bit, .....OH IT'S SO MUCH FUN!{?)
By the way,
The switch is in the usual place, just like on all cars and pickup trucks. It's down inside the steering column on the left side, towards the floor. The part of the steering column that you see is just a tube. The key lock turns a gear mechanism, which in turn pushes a rod up, and down, or a cable in a sheath. This rod, or cable in turn moves the switch.

How do I check that switch. The starer was dragging before it did this. I have checked the battery and cables. When I turn the key the fuel pump kicks on and the relay in the glove box clicks. Could it be the relay or maybe starter solenoid?
replaced both battery cables, had the starter and ignition control module tested and were both good. and the starer was fun going on and off.
What about the neutral safety switch?
