Re: shuts down 5 to 10 sec after start up

First of all get to the jumper next to the cmos battery in the main board try to change its position for some seconds while power is off this way you will clear cmos. start computer go to bios (hit delete on start up) and save changes.

hit delete on start up and load system defaults then exit saving changes.

chek the board position sometimes if its bottom was in contact with any metal of the pc case then this could cause it to restart (this could damage ur system too!)

Asus will not turn off after shutdown

All these things point to the bios. You need to go to the Asus site for that motherboard and download an upgraded bios. There will be directions there on how to update your bios, probably both from Windows and from the system prompt.

Problem with ASUS P5GD1 mobo

Try taken the bios battery out for about 30 secs, replace it and then reboot, after post press F8 untill you have a screen pop up with a safe mode option use the arrows keys to navigate to safe mode and press enter. In safe mode goto my conputer c:drive(boot drive) windows. In the windows folder look for a file called prefetch, delete all it contents. Exit out of everything and restart the pc. If same thing happens post back.

Keeps turning off

Sounds like a hardware failure. Possilbly the motherboard, more than likely, the power supply.
But then - maybe neither.
Shut it off completely, once you restart, start hitting the F8 key ( once a second ) until you see the " Safe Mode" choices screen. Drop down and select the " Last known Good Configuration" option and hit enter.
If this doesnt work, try the same proceedures ( restart - F8 ) but this time select safe mode - at the top of the list.
If you sucessfully boot in safe mode, you have a system file problem that could be virus related, file table corruptions or registry problems or all combined.

simple. clear the CMOS by using clear cmos jumper setting or remove the cmos battery and put it again and then change the bios settings as per ur machine configuration.
