Question about Brother MFC 420CN All-In-One InkJet Printer
IS SHOWING M & Y NEAR EMPTY WHICH IS NOT AND IT WILL NOT PRINT RED AS WELL. ANY ONE CAN HELP WILL BE GREAT. THANKS. P.C.
Try to put hot water in each cartridge install, not so hot but normal hot that can disolve hard liquid component. When an inks happens not used more that 3 months it will become hard that might be possible the printer would not able to get the specific color because the cartridge getting problem.
Make it sure the bottom part of the cartridge will not filled hot water where you can see the circuit outside, so make it sure only the sides of the cartridge filled with hot water.
Then make it sure after filling water you need to use dry cloth to make it dry before putting back again to your printer head.
Hope this will be helpful.

This is deffinately a blockage problem as the printer been near a heat source ie in sun light or near heater or radiator if so then the problem will be a blocked ink jet you can clean these with a cue tip and some rubbing alcahol if it as been near a heat source then these tend to clog up have you replaced the ink cartridges or not replace thes and then run test printer to test that the ink cartridges are working if not then the ink cartridges are blocked and will neeed alcahol to clean and clean it thouroghly hope this is some help let me know if you are still struggling using cheaper brand cartridges sometimes block the jets as they tend to be thicker and will block the jets so i would stick to teh better brands and you should have no trouble sorry couldnt be anymore help good luck

First let me say that these printers have received horrible reviews, because the problems you're having are incredibly common, and annoying to fix. You can replace the print heads, however that usually costs more than replacing the printer. If it were me, I would just buy a different printer - but if you want to try to fix it, you'll need to remove and clean the print heads. Here's now to do that (it's not an easy process, so if you're not confident you can handle it, I suggest you not try).
Open the lid as if to replace the ink.
Unclip the bottom of the lid leg and swing open, leaving the ink in.
Remove 4 screws and remove plastic clips to the wires.
Disconnect the wires - there are 4 or 5 in total.
Now carefully unhook the lid from main unit. Take your time or you will end up breaking the hinge.
After separating the 2 parts, unclip the plastic cover on the printhead.
Remove the printhead cable wire from the printhead.
Unclip the silver clip that holds the ink hoses.
Undo the top (in relation to the printhead) slide bar.
Carefully remove the printhead... lift from the side without the bar first.
Soak the printhead under very warm water for a few minutes to get the old ink out. If it's not completely clean, repeat with fresh water until it is. You can't clean it too thoroughly, so err on the side of over doing it.
Now... reassemble by reversing the above steps.
If you removed the ink tanks.. you now have a mess on the bottom of your printer. Clean that before reassembly.

The ink cartriges probably dried up. If they aren't used for a while, they can become unuseable. If the alcohol and qtip trick didn't work, I would suggest buying new cartriges for the printer. I ususally get mine from printpal.com because they have good prices. Here is the link for your printer model:
Hope this helps!

Try removing the cartrages and clean them with rubbing alcohol and a qtip. Do the same for the printer jets the cartrages sit in.
If that fails, unistall the printer software restart pc and reinstall printer software.
