Re: microwave has loud buzz and does not work

It's probably a shorted high-voltage diode or magnetron, but there's some chance it's a bad high-voltage transformer.

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa:

You can probably find an exploded view and order parts by entering your model number here:

Kenmore Over the Range Microwave making buzzing sound and not heating

This is a strong indicator the magnetron is fried, also! this is the most expensive part to replace in the microwave oven, and in most cases cheaper to replace the whole unit.

If the loud buzzing noise is present when cooking food, the magnetron is the likely cause, some models are louder than others. But if the buzzing noise is there without the microwave running it should be checked. No! this something that should be checked by a professional for safety.

Kenmore microwave Model No. 721.62463201 runs but does not heat and has a terrificately loud buzz. All lights displays are normal

Hello there:
There's no heat, but it buzzes loudly When the microwave won't heat, but you hear a loud buzz, you usually have a defective power diode, high-voltage capacitor, or magnetron. I recommend that you consult with a qualified appliance repair technician for help in determining the problem and deciding what to do about it.
And if you have your warranty for this you can use it to ok
Hope this helps best regards mike

Loud buzzing noise with Whirpool microwave oven when it comes on. All lights, heating and fan seems to work but not sure why loud buzzing. What is the problem?

The loud buzzing you hear is the sound of the magnatron tube. That is what emits the microwave radiation and buzzing should be normal. The mag tube may be nearing its end at witch time you will hear no buzzing and hence no heating of foods. Replacement can be costly depending on the model so most people just opt for a new one. Hope this helps

Makes a loud buzzing noise and does not get hot

Have seen this many times.

Sounds like a bad CAP since a bad diode would blow the fuse and a bad mag would likely do the same thing.

Since yours is making the loud 60hz buzz you need to replace the capacator that will likely fix the problem. A $10 fix

Microwave buzzing

It's likely a bad magnetron or maybe the high-voltage transformer. If it's within the warranty period of the magnetron (5 years or less), I would call Sears. In my professional opinion, no one should work on a microwave unless they are fully informed and aware of the deadly hazards and necessary precautions. Microwave makes loud buzzing sound when on and no heat

Have you tried putting a cup of water in it and cooking on a low power level? If it buzzes only when it is on the cook cycle, that would narrow it down. More detals might help us help you, including the model number.
