The throttle needs to be held in order to get it running, seems to be flooded when choke is used on a cold start. Once it is running it runs fine for the day. Just the morning start up is the problem. Spark is good and fuel is getting to the carb. Any Ideas?

SOUNDS LIKE TUNNING PROBLEM..TRY RUNNING IT ON A LONG TRIP WITH THE HIGHEST OCTAIN YOU CAN FIND PREMUM FOR SURE AND SEE IF THAT CLEANS IT OUT IF NOT YOUR GOING TO HAVE THEN CLEANED BY SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING..YOU ONLY NEED TO CHOKE IN COLD CLIMATES..TRY ONLY HALF A CHOKE INSTEAD OF FULL CHOKE..THE CHOKE DUMPS RAW FUEL INTO THE ENGINE FOR COLD START UP ONLY..MAYBE CHOKE NEEDS ADJUSTMENT..

Testimonial: "Thanks its a start. Im not sure why but my sled info was not part of my msg. Its an 04'900cc Arctic Cat 1M I changed the jets as it was running very rich and not sounding clean. Now it sounds good and snappy but hates to start in the morning. I wind up having to get a buddy to hold the throttle a bit while I pull her over and it grudgingly starts. The choke seems to flood it right away. Before doing the jets it started first pull :("

SOURCE: J.D snowmobile 340 73 carb wont idle appears internally clean.

my guess is that its not the carb at all but it might be the gas line in side the tank is cloged to the point whare you need to have it on choke in order to pull enough gas to the carb which would be the reason for it not wanting to come back down to idle quickly or it could be the fuel pump is cloged and if you tried that already than the fuel adjustment is way off and will need to be adjusted while a friend or family is keepin it running

and if that is not the problem than email me.
good luck:)

SOURCE: This bike is a 2007 and is extremely cold blooded

Try adjusting the fuel/air ratio screw on your carb. i would start by turning it 1/4 counter-clockwise to allow more fuel to flow in.

Testimonial: " there is no air screw on this model for some reason just a fixed jet inside the float bowl. Thanks anyway."

G'day mate the 1st thing i would go for is float level then compresion if it does have the **** it wont take the fuel in , rules are if it has **** ( induction ) Squeeze (compression) Bang ( spark) and Blow (free exhaust) then it should go, if it was running to lean there is good chance it has a burnt exhaust valve which will greatly drop the compression/induction, also check the valve clearence. hope this helps

SOURCE: '97 rstd cold start, full choke,, cyl 3&4 do

low milage tells me most likley the carb is gummed up. You may need to remove and clean out or try some fuel injection cleaner. Use twice as strong as recommended. Your description points to not enough fuel when cold which is when it needs the most. If your handy I would remove the bowl and blow out all chambers and tubes with brake cleaner.

Bg86, how to start

https://m.stihlusa.com/WebContent/CMSFileLibrary/InstructionManuals/STIHL-BG-56-66-86-SH-56-86-Owners-Instruction-Manual.pdf

See above for starting instructions.

As for flooding, yes.

Per instructions; If cold, use full choke. If warm, use mid choke setting. Be careful not to confuse throttle speed select with choke. Always pump primer several times regardless.

I have a cr 125 2003 model , my bike was running and starting fine but today it cut out t, the spark plug is firing there is fuel coming threw but it is not firing up ,there apperes to be flooded as the...

HI, IF IT IS FLOODED, TURN OF THE FUEL AND OPEN THE THROTTLE FULLY AND KEEP AT THIS POSITION WITHOUT THE CHOKE,KICK REPEATINGLY AND IT MAY FIRE EVENTUALY,

RREMEMBER THAT THE CHOKE INITIALY FLOODS THE ENGINE FOR COLD STARTING, SO USING THE CHOKE WHEN ALLREADY FLOODED WILL WORSEN THINGS,

YOU COULD PROBABLY REMOVE THE EXHAUST TO DISPENSE THE FUEL QUICKER AND PUT IN A CLEAN PLUG, I WOULD DO THIS BEFORE I STRIP DOWN THE CARB TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM CLEARS, AS THE BIKE WAS PREVIOUSLY RUNNING IT SEEMS ODD TO START MAKING ADDJUSTMENTS

My spark plug floods everytime I try to start my SYM RV250cc motor scooter. Note: It is below freezing (20 degrees). I have been starting it once or twice a week to keep the battery charged. Last time I...

Not sure where you are (what country) but starting the scooter every so often is actually harder on it then just letting it sit. Here is a suggestion first get a small battery charger to put on the battery and bring it up to power, get some gas (fuel) stabilizer and put a few ounces in the gas tank. Motorcycle and scooters are heavily summer Bias, winter or cold starts are just not what they are meant to do. When the temperature here in Canada gets down to +10c my motorcycles can be just rude to start. Not only that the tires being tuned or made for hotter conditions become hard in the cold weather and will not grip the road surface well at all. Okay lets get back to your scooter, once you have the battery back up to power, put the gas (fuel) stabilizer in the tank and fire up the scooter, be careful not to over choke it or you will flood it. You need to nurse it along once it does start and don't rev it up to much cause it's just not going to like you until it has some heat. Once running on it's own you'll need to let it run in a well ventilated area for at least ten minutes to get that fuel stabilizer through the fuel system. Once you have done that your scooter is good to the spring. As a suggestion I'd put the charger on the battery once a month for a couple of hours at a time to keep it fresh don't stat it. What you are doing now by starting it every week or so is taking more battery power out to start then you are putting back in running it a few minutes (10) because of the cold temperatures. This will drain the battery making it increasingly harder to start and requiring more power from the battery which it doesn't have. The battery will give it's all to turn the starter which will short change the ignition system which requires at least 10 volts to fire the plug(s). You keep cranking the engine hoping it will fire meanwhile there is no ignition because there isn't enough power to make it happen. Vicious circle, that's why I'm suggesting you charge the battery before you attempt to start it again. The Fuel Stabilizer is just that it keeps the gas fresh and prevents varnishing or fowled systems. Cheers Have a Great Holiday Season from Robert in Canada

Flooding

Yes its getting too much petrol , you will have to check the float pin, better to clean the carb.

Husqvarna 350 wont stay running?

ok,  The choke is used to change the air/fuel mixture by "choking" off the air that goes to the carburator.  The choke is only used to get the motor running in cold temperatures.  Once the motor is started, the choke must be opened or the motor will flood and stall when you open the throttle.    I hope this solves your problem.  Best wishes, Michael Mittelsdorf
