Sansa E250 Cannot Reformat, Blue Ring Only

I've tried to reformat this using various software, including e200tool, because it's to the point where the only thing it will do is turn on with the blue ring lighted, no screen at all. It does show up as an unknown USB device in Windows XP. Is there any software out there that will force it to reformat? In etool200 it gets to the point where it's to write the software to the device but stops, it can't seem to write to the device. Thanks!

    Thanks, I tried the Sandisk tool before, since it won't show up in XP as a writable FAT16 location their tool won't touch it. The e200tool is the aftermarket one available on the web.

Not sure what e200 tool you are referring to.

But this is the one provided by SanDisk;

Run the recovery tool from the SanDisk website. Make sure you select "format" when prompted.

http://rapidshare.com/files/67740173/e200fw01.00.12.exe____

You need to put the device into "recovery mode" before you run the tool.

- Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds)
- Slide the hold switch into "hold" position.
- Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer.

Then run the recovery tool. Select format when prompted.

Best of Luck.

The device won't turn on

If you have a microSD or can borrow one try inserting it and turning on the Sansa.  If it works then you will have to reformat the internal memory (you will loose all songs in the Sansa)
I hope this helps.

Won't turn fully on

1. Download recover.rar from here
2. unpack the libusb-win32-device-bin-20060827.tar.gz to (example) c:libusb
3 find e200tool.zip and unpack it to (example) c:e200tool

lots of archives isnt it )))

DRIVER:
1. connect using manufacturing mode (hold button on + center button while connecting)
2. In device manager find unknown device under USB and update the driver. Select driver manually. Navigate to 0781-0720.inf (came with the archive) (c:e200tool)
3. When windows promt you to install "libusb0.sys" direct it to с:libusblibusb-win32-device-bin-20060827in
4. Start-> run -> cmd
5 type:
cd
cd e200tool
e200tool recover BL_SD_boardSupportSD.rom
6. windows will find another usb device so instead of "0781-0720.inf" choose 0666-E200.inf
7 disconnect player and restart it

STEP 3 (recover bootloader)
1. connect player in manufacruring mode
2. Start-> run -> cmd
3 type:
cd
cd e200tool
e200tool recover BL_SD_boardSupportSD.rom
but before you hit enter press and hold record button (very important)

Step $ (firmware update)

1. connect player in recovery mode
2. copy PP5022.mi4 to 16 mb partition
3 restart player

OK and now If you screw it up - it is not my fault ))

My display doesnt work

My son had the same problem. I think he let it get too hot, left it setting in the sun too long. We tried everything. Unfortunately, he had to reformat, and lost everything. But he had all his date backed up on an external harddrive. Sorry....

SanDisk Sansa e200 datadase fail or memory bug need backup... Thanks

switch to recovery mode! here:

copy and paste the following link into your web browser address bar, and then click Go or hit your Enter key. When prompted, choose the option to Save the file to your Desktop.

http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/firmware/e200fw01.00.12.exe

Once you have downloaded the file, please follow these instructions.

1) Double click on My Computer so that you can see it on your screen.

2) Turn the player off.

3) On the top of the player is a Hold switch, move it to the right (toward the headphone jack) so you see Orange.

4) On the left hand side of the player is a Record button, press and hold it while connecting the player to the computer. Continue holding the Record button until you see a new icon under My Computer called 16MB FORMAT. Once you see that icon you may release the Record button.

5) Double click the file you downloaded earlier and run it. Follow all of the on-screen instructions, and when you get to the prompt where it asks you whether you would like to Format it, choose Yes. Once it is done, click Finish.

6) Disconnect the player and look at the screen. Several things will be displayed, and when you see Key Lock, System Shutdown, move the Hold switch on the top back to the left.

7) Turn the player on and watch the screen. If you see a Refresh Database Fail error, you will need to follow steps 1-7 again until you do not get the error. If it does not work the first time, it could take up to 3 times for it to work.
