Question about Whirlpool ED5SHAXM Side by Side Refrigerator

REFRIG SIDE NOT COOLING

Not sure exactly what model i have..side by side with water ( round filter cartridge on bottom left of unit )& ice, approx 6 years old. I actually have 2 problems which may or may not be related. 2 weeks ago refrigerator side door would not stay shut and pushing on it and holding it for about 5 seconds seemed to do the trick but sometimes would come open so we resorted to a wooden spoon pushed thru the handles...lol, sounds a bit hillbillyish now that i type that. anyhow, then refrig stopped getting cold so adjusted temp controls..freezer to warmer and refrig to coldest. didnt work, so i took that hooded vent thing off in freezer up by light and cleaned the ice out of it(it was clogged with ice) and used a hot blow dryer in the vent & also down on vent located on shelf by meat drawer just in case those were iced up where i couldn't see it. seemed to improve air flow and thought that would cool the fridge but doesnt seem to have solved problem..fridge still getting warmer & sweating inside & freezer just keeps getting colder.

The sweating inside is from the door not making a proper seal, and you are getting condensation build-up. The door not shutting is not as unusual as you may think. First check the gasket condition, a new one may not be a bad idea. On these refers with the revisable doors, try removing the freezer door and then loosening the fridge door hinges and adjusting the mounts. Its a trial and error procedure so don't get frustrated. Another trick is to wad up a wash cloth into a ball and wedging it into the door gap after you open it on the hinge side, then close the door. You should have some tension, but not too much. This bends the door a little. If you can get the door to make a good seal it should solve the other problems with the temperature. If not, you are going in the right direction by locating and cleaning the vents. All the cool air in the fridge comes from the freezer.

right corner of refrigerator section. Twist cartridge
counterclockwise 1/4 turn and pull down to remove.
Save bypass for use at a later date.
b. See Water Filtration System Installation and

No water will come out of the door

At the bottom of the freezer door ( remove the kick plate ) , there will be a water line . Follow this line , about 6 " to a connector . Push in on the white ring and pull out the line , at the same time . Activate the water dispensor pad and see if water flows from the line under the refrig . If it does , then the line in the door is frozen . Either raise the freezer temp for several days , so the line in the door will thaw , or , I have heard using an air tank will blow the ice out of the line in the door . If no water comes from the line under the refrig , while activating the pad , then replace the water valve , behind the refrig , the piece the wall water line connects to on the refrig . GE has a dispensor heater pt. # WR41X10173 to stop this freezing and it comes with instructions .

Whirlpool ultraease warm on left side, dispenses warm water

not dangerous, i would recommend vacuuming coils under and behind refrig, make sure the fan behind the unit( cooling for compressor) is running full speed. the water is probably "warmer" then usual because the waterline runs across the bottom of the refrig, which appears to be overheating as it is. this should rectify your issue

Water leaking from bottom of unit

For original poster: Check all milky white colored (polyethelne) plastic water lines. These lines tend to get brittle and can crack over a period of time. They extend from the water valve to the ice maker, and from the water valve to the inside of the refrig to a "radiator" so the water can chill, before it runs back out the refrig, past the left side of the refrig behind the bottom grill, through a coupler, and up through the bottom hinge of the freezer door. I'd also advise putting in a separate shut off for the water supply to the refrig so you can have water to the rest of your house when you have a problem with the refrig.

For next user with similar problem: you can check the above, but it may be that the defrost drain is plugged. (on a S x S unit, it is located at the bottom of the freezer compartment, behind the back wall.) If you have a layer of ice on the floor of the freezer, that's a dead give away of a blocked defrost drain tube, Use a turkey baster with hot (not boiling) water to flush it out.

I guess it was water from drain lines, or leak from water lines.

An Ice/thick frost build up on the back wall of the freezer if a side by side .The tank will be behind the crisper drawers you will see it frozen block of ice verses water in it you can tap it to see if the water moves.. Your water inlet valve on the disp. side maybe bad as well. Is the refrig section cooling ok??
