- Can i do that without losing the data in the hd?
The lack of free space iis on your internal HD not the external. Whenever transferring files from one drive to another, you are acturally making a copy of the file to be transferred and sending the copy to the new drive. If your internal HD is nearly full, you can try to Cut and Paste the files to the external, or clear up more space on your internal b/4 tryiing to move the bigger files. Best of luck.

- Has the external drive been formatted in FAT32 or NTSF?

- Windows can't handle files larger than 4GB in FAT32. You will need to format your external to NTSF in order to enable larger file size transfers.

- Unfortunately no; if this is an issue, you can partition the external and formate the new partiion in NTSF. Then migrate the FAT32 files over and you can safely reformat the FAT32 partition. Otherwise, the fastest way would be to just reformat the whole external.
Download the P2P program Soulseek. Share the folder that contains the file you want to transfer. Set your download folder on the external drive. Add youself to your user list. Browse your own files. Download the file file from yourself. Worked for me.

Hello, I have a Western Digital External Hard Drive (My Book) that my PC suddenly won't recognise. When I connect the HD via usb 2.0 there is a loud clicking sound followed by some whirring. This happens three or four times then stops. Device Manager on PC says no drivers detected. Had WD Drive for about five or six years. Running Windows XP. Thanks for any advice. Jonathan
