Lamp failure Lamp is dead, and I would like to buy a replacement and fit it myself. Don't know the part number, and where to buy it. The solution i was given is to send the scanner to the official microtek repair centre. Quite expensive. Many thanks for any tips. Fran

Re: Lamp failure

The E6 Scanner lamp can be substituted by a standard
F8T5CW lamp. It is 12 insches long, uses 8 watts, is in the
T5 tube size with two prongs at each end and cool white, not
warm white. The replacement lamp works fine.

Re: Lamp failure

Unless this scanner cost more than a hundred dollars, it is hard to imagine how to fix it in a cost effective way. Good scanners are pretty cheap now, too, around $30. You could also try to find a replacement scanner of the same type on eBay...

Lamp expired can I find a new lamp & can I replace it myself

Hello Ann Welford,

Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!

To answer your question: I don't recommend replacing the bulb on this unit.
Not only did HP design these scanners in such a way as to elimnate "User changable parts" but it would not be cost effective. You can buy a replacement scanner for this unit for close to $75.00 and it will have newer features and software controls.

Have a great day!

Where can I buy spare parts? i need a new lamp.

I have a Agfa DuoScan F40 Flatbed Scanner. It appears that the scanning function is not working. Light is not turn on.Blank white paper as a result.
I wonder if we could somehow mod the scanner lamp since it is nearly impossible for us to buy the scanner lamp nowdays, even Agfa support say so.
The function of this lamp is similiar to a torchlight. It will brighten the document that we want to scan during the scanning proces. What if somehow we manage to use other device other than the lamp it self like superbright LED(20 watts) or another lamp scanner from dead scanner macine.I think it will work.Anyone care to comment....

The lamp is dead. I cannot find a replacement for under $1200.00 Can this be true?

It's not just the lamp they're selling, it's the whole lamp fitment.

Cheaper to buy new, I guess.

My scanner no longer has the internal light that is needed to scan documents. Does the light burn out? And can it be replaced?

Yes, that scanner bulb can fail, as can the circuitry inside that lights it. Microtek's site lists a phone number you can call to check on replacement lamp availability, but you'd probably be better off buying a new scanner. It's not easy to change the lamp, and may turn out not to be the problem after all. Scanners are reasonably priced, and a new one would come with a warranty.

I keep getting an error message lamp problem cannot initialize. Hap scanjet 3970. no help from hp. Bob Hall

I guess you know that this is a Mechanical problem, it simply means the lamp which scans the document is not working properly. It's the bar like unit emitting very bright light which moves to and fro just below the scanner's glass.

There are three basic possibilities with this error.
  1. The Lamp itself.
  2. The Flex Cable which connects the Lamp with the Board (motherbaord of the printer)
  3. The connectors and the board itself
First, open it apart the check the scanner and remove the Lamp, now reconnect it after cleaning the connectors, contact points and the interfaces with cotton dipped in alcohol or spirit or acetone. Place it properly on it's position and power on the printer, check whether the error is still displaying or not. No positive outcome? Then switch off the machine and disconnect it, check the continuity of the flex cable, if it's alright and you see no continuity problem, then the problem is with the lamp or with the board or connectors, during this situation, you'll need another spare to check the issues so that you can find out the problem.

If there's continuity problem and you find it fault, replacing the cable will fix the problem.

On the other hand for connectors, you need to do it very carefully and look every connector points with great effort if you can see any bent or twisted among them, if you are sure that there's nothing to do with it, the the problem must be from the Board which is not as easy as we think could be repaired. You can replace it, while there a problem, we can't find the spare, and so it will be difficult but you could possibly get the one from a Repairing shop or Servicing Center.

*Warning*: If you know how to do all these things, just go ahead or else, please take it to a Service Center or call a Tech and get it repaired. Without proper knowledge, you may damage it if in case it could be easily fixable.

I wish you Good Luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I'm getting a lamp error on my 2400. I followed the unplug and wait solution but that is not fixing the problem. Can I buy and fix the lamp myself or is thing fubar.

The lamp error is usually caused by dirty mirrors in the scanner. You need to take the cover off the unit and clean all of the mirrors with window cleaner. Allow about 5 minutes for the mirrors to dry and reassemble the scanner, power on and test. You should be good to go.

I hope this helps, If so please rate my solution.

HP Scanjet 4600 problem

that means your scanner has a problem internally. bring it to the nearest service center or buy a new one coz its much practical than paying a service fee more than the cost of a new one.
