Crazy characters start to print when printing from pdf doc or certain websites

When I try to print from (boarding pass) or certain pdf documents sent via email, etc. the printer says error occured and multiple sheets start spewing out of printer with hearts, funny faces, emoticons, crazy font. Usually a few per page and then another page starts in. Cannot stop without going to print qeue and manually cancelling print job. I can fax the boarding pass from website to the printer and it will then print out fine. I know MAC computers had similar type problem with certain graphics programs. I have a dell pc with windows xp.

Re: crazy characters start to print when printing from...

I understand that the printer is printing garbage when you are trying to print from internet.

Please follow the below given instructions to resolve the issue.

This issue can occur if the data send from the application from which you are printing, is using the PC-8 character set. This will produce a smiley face or garbage charters each time an unsupported escape code is sent by application. To know the character set, please contact the manufacturer of the application.
Also, you can follow these steps to disable the power managment in the comoputer.
1. Right-click My Computer, choose properties
2. Click Hardware tab, click Device Manager button.
3. Click the + next to Universal Serial Bus Controller.
4. Right-click USB Root Hub, choose properties.
5. Click Power Management tab.
5. Uncheck the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device
to save power.
6. Click Ok.

If the issue persists, follow the instructions from the below given weblink to resolve the issue.

Here is the web document:

Just copy and paste the entire link into the Internet browser's address bar and press enter.

This should resolve the issue.

I cannot print PDF files on my Lexmark X4650. Word docs print fine, but Adobe files will not print and I cannot convert them to word either.

Make sure your Adobe application is updated.
Try to update your printer driver as well. Please visit the Lexmark website to download and install the Lexmark X4650 Printer Driver on your computer. Select your operating system > download and execute the file.
Once the update is complete, try to print a PDF file again to verify that the problem is fixed.

Can't print pdf documents- I get a message that I must install printer. I am able to print other word docs, just not pdf.

It could be your adobe acrobat reader responsible for PDF documents

If you can print using other applications definitely it has nothing to do with printer.

Try downloading latest version of acrobat reader from adobe website.
Unintstall the acrobat reader software from your PC in ARP (add remove programs)

reinstall the latest version of adobe acrobat reader

Try links below it may help you too

Hope I help you a bit

Prints .doc won't print .pdf

In order to print both DOC and PDF you need to have both PCL6 and PostScript drivers installed on the PC. One is for Word documents and the other will support PDF printing. You can get the drivers from DELL website.

Printing black squares in word.doc

It sounds like this is an HP driver issue. HP drivers have built-in "optimizations" (that unfortunately have bugs) for things like printing photos. Different programs (word, for example) try to take advantage of these optimizations in different ways. When they work, they give superior photo printing (faster, with more accurate color). When they don't, you get black squares. This is why "converting" it to PDF worked for you -- Word printed it through the PDF driver instead of the HP printer driver, then when you printed the PDF file, that program avoided those optimizations when it sent the images to the printer. Unfortunately, the translation caused quality loss. If your goal was to print out something like a "proof-sheet" of photos, you might try the free photo organizer at It will print these for you, captions and everything, and should be able to avoid the driver issues.
