Light bulb in new bottom freezer model

I am suspicious that the light bulb did not go out when I closed the door. It was very hot when I went back opened the door and the plastic assembly was hanging down, having melted. Debbie McKee

Hi, yeah, I did the button pushing, I figured if there are loose wires, its a random thing. The light bulb seems to be a 60 Watt. the exact label reads 120V60W24 and the rest is hard to read.

Maybe the little man inside that shuts it off is on vacation. Just kidding! With the door open, look for a little trigger/switch that shuts the light off when you close the door, press it and see if the light goes out. Out of curiosity, what wattage bulb do you have in there that would melt the cover. It should be no larger than 40w, 25w being the best.

I am assuming the light went out when you pushed the button? And the light bulb is too bright (60w) try a 40w, or less if you like, and use the small diameter bulbs. not the ones that are the usual size (A-19)

Lite bulb in freezer not working, put a new bulb in still not working

Unplug it.

There is usually a switch that gets frozen in the closed (door) position.

Try looking in the freezer, front and center, ceiling area.

If the switch moves easily, then it could be the socket.

If it is iced up, wipe it with a warm wet cloth in the same direction that the door opens and closes to get it to spring back.

Plug it back in.

If that doesn't help post a model # and I'll continue the walk through.

I have the bottom freezer w/2 doors up top....light inside will not go off and has started to melt some of the plastic pieces. How do you remove the light bulbs so the darn thing doesn't burn...

There should be a light switch inside each compartment, depress them with the door open one at a time, locate the bad switch and disconnect it. You can remove the bulbs too. Most of the problems with bottom freezer are the door, they seem to not get closed properly and they get heavily frosted, once frosted they seem not to close correctly and cause the lights to remain on.
I would look for the problem with the door closing or the door switch failing.

The lights will go off after a certain time period; that is built into the control. But if the lights never worked even after the door has been closed for a time, it is probably the light switch, which is in the "throat moulding" or "breaker strip", whatever you want to call it. That it the plastic strip surrounding the door when in the closed position. That should be under warranty.

there's a light or door switch that could be bad, look around and you'll see a switch that the door hits to turn the lights on and off,i've seen people put the bulbs in cross threaded i remove the bulb thread it in and it works try removing the bulb and put it back in again, also if you unplug the machine and stick your finger into the socket there's a metal tab in there that touches the bulb if that is pushed in to far it won't touch the bulb to work bend that out a little and try it again, all there is is the bulb the socket and the switch and the switches are pretty reliable, they're located on the side or up top where the door closes in on the machine

Hi - hearing a fan whirling sound when either of the upper doors are closed. Freezer is still freezing but warm up top. Pressing the close button instead of closing the door produces the same fan sound.

Make sure the lights are going off in the freshfood section. If lights staying on remove bulbs immediately and order new control board located on back of unit.

The drain has most likely frozen over. It is at the bottom behind the back panel inside the freezer. You will need to remove all of the ice and run hot water down the drain until it is clear.
