The power supply to our PS2 comes and goes. Wiggling the power cable close to where it enters the console will eventually turn it back on. It will play fine for a while then suddenly cut out.
The problem started after it had been played for a long while during a car journey and I thnk the vibration may have damaged either the cable or the power in socket.
Unless you have the Slim model, then you need to get it soldered back in place carefully.Unless you have the Slim model, then you need to get it soldered back in place carefully.

hi!
well some sort of loosening connection to your power supply, the power supply cable might be loosening have it replace,or find some a replcement to test.cheers
Tirn console off and disconnet power supply for 30 seconds. then reconnect and turn on the console via the button on the front WATCH THE LIGHT CLOSELY - if it JUST turns on then goes off its either a dead powers supply-perfectly feasable bearing how old the thing is. If it blinks then im afraid your console is dead and a replacement will probably be cheaper than repair. New power supplies can be ordered in by GAME or GAMESTATION if not in stock
Power supply may be junk, can you test it on a friends and see if its the power supply? If the power supply is good the system is dead, but need to test the power supply first.
My suggestion is if it will plug into the newer unit, then it is fine to utilize the older power supply. I have two different PS2 units, and we use the cords for either to plug the units in.
I know on the fat systems there is a fuse on the top of the unit near the power supply that needs to be changed... I am not so sure about the ps2 slim... check out the forums!
You might try a friends ps2 power supply of the same type to make shure it isnt the ps2 that is broken. If the friends power supply works, get a working one from ebay or something.
