If it's and Android device, In a computer, log in to your google account, then search for Android Device Manager, it should take you to your own Device Manager, make sure that your tablet is online, even if you forgot your password it don't matter, they stay connected in the background. From Device Manager your tablet should pop up, from here you have three choices, and of them is to lock it, just type a new lock code, go to your tablet and input the same code.

If you set a pass code (or pattern) that you cannot remember, please enter the wrong password (10-20 times) until you are prompted to sign in via your google account. Please note, this will only work if you have already setup your google account on the tablet. If you have not set up a Google (or Gmail) account on the tablet, you will have to perform a firmware install, which will revert the tablet back to factory settings.
