Hi, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC25 doesn't use a conventional, user-replaceable belt. Instead it it uses a belt engineered to last the lifetime of the vacuum in normal use, protected by a sensor which shuts off the brush bar if something jams it.

Normally, checking the cleaner head for obstructions and removing any threads or hair from the brush bar and endcap will allow you to reset your machine:

However if you've already followed each of the steps shown in our video guide without success, you may need a replacement cleaner head or a repair of your machine. If you can contact us directly we should be able to arrange this for you, and can also confirm if this is covered under your Dyson warranty.

When you have your DC25 easily to hand, please get in touch with the Dyson Customer Helpline so we can help determine if a repair or replacement part is needed. You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

We'll look forward to speaking with you.

Dyson Dc40 brush won't turn does it have a Hoover

Hi, it's Jim from Crucial Vacuum.

Is there anything interfering with the brush? More times than not hair or fibers from a carpet will get tangled and caught causing the brush to jam. If there's nothing visibly wrong try manually spinning it to see if anything becomes noticeably caught.

Should you need a replacement part you can purchase direct from Crucial Vacuum with free shipping and an exclusive 10% coupon for Fixya.com readers, use code: FIXYA10

Check out some of our DC40 parts below.

Why is the roller brush spinning half heartedly and making a hesitant whining noise. It's not really picking up anything.

May have a faulty wire or there could be something rapped around the spook at the end jamming it enough to strain the motor and slow the spinning

Brush not spinning

Remove the bottom plate to see if the belt came off of the motor shaft, or perhaps it broke in two when the brush stopped turning. Hope this helps!

Brush wont spin

Was the belt worn or broken? It probably needs to be replaced. Here is the belt you need:

I was vacuuming over some fringe and then the brush just stopped working and there is nothing caught in it. It spins freely when twisted by hand, but will not turn when vacuum turned on.

have you checked the belt? it could have snapped when you caught the fringe. also if it has a separate brushroll motor there should be a reset that probably tripped out.

Should the brushes revolve something got caught on the brushes when vacuuming up

Yes, the brushes (beater bar) should revolve. Even though the brush is spinning, you probably need to replace the belt2_bing.gif because it is stretched. It is probably slipping on the beater bar..

Burning smell and smoke

When you turn it on....is the belt turning the brushes? Something may be caught causing the brushes to stick and the belt to just grind the brush assembly.

Brushes not spinning after change out

I got my brushes spinning by moving them while the unit was running. For mine it seems that they got stuck from sitting. The brushes move from the air driven motor unit. This works from the vacumm that is being put through the machine. I just spun the brushes while the unit was turned on. Don't get your fingers caught.
