The glass lens is usually glues onto a frame, some come with this frame and you release it from the housing, and some you have to remove the broken glass from the frame and glue the new one to the frame.
Get your replacement mirror glass from the dealer,break the rest of the old mirror out and glue the new one in.Get the proper glue from the dealership also.No problem.Be sure to clean all the old mirror pieces of the glue positions so it goes on flat.Don't get cut.
I use crazy glue and some patient and work fine. Put a little on the other side of the broken key, push back into ignition and hold for a couple of minutes until dry, when removing pull fast, if fail try again. I have a Sprinter and the keys are prone to breaking already happen twice and both time I got it out with crazy glue.
did one tuesday the plastic tabs either break off or come unglued from the glass. u need urethane to glue it back on and tabs can be bought at the dealer $6 again u need urethane to glue it NOT silicone not crazy glue look for a thread from earlier today i wrote a book on glass replacement n im not about to repeat it takes me an hour to do without damaging anything find the thread
if it came unglued from glass which is what it sounds like, any auto parts store should have a special package of "rear view mirror glue or cement" it is on the shelf. it should come with the all important cleaning solution or wipe, but before you clean (scrape with razor blade scraper, glass and bracket )off old glue, mark the position of mirror, do this on inside or outside of glass with tape or a marker. the mirror has a bracket its mounted to, look closely for a set screw and remove bracket, it might be a tiny slotted screw or hex head (allen head ) note position of bracket in relation to mirror because your going to glue the bracket only to the glass at first and when the bracket is upright the mirror will slide down on to bracket, then tighten the set screw! be sure to follow instructions EXACTLY on package of glue. would be a good idea to get two packs, just in case first try goes awry. its cheap!
If it has a rear window defroster, you can't use a razor blade. If the tint material will pull off and leave glue behind, then spray windex on the glass and put the tint material back on the glass like it was. Can't do this in the sun to long, the sun will dry out the windex. The ammonia in the windex will loosen up the glue. Then you can remove the tint material, and the glue should wipe of with a paper towel.
p.s. let the windex soak for 5 min. or so.
2000 Chevy Blazer 4 door with pop up glass and drop down gate. I experienced this exact problem 4 years ago. The glass unlock actuator inside the drop down hatch has a small plastic piece connect to it. This piece pushes the glass unlock mechanism. In order to temporarily unlock, you must pull the carpeting piece down and located in the center is an access hole where your can depress the unlock mechanism from inside, until you find a replacement piece. I recommend the pick and pull lots where you can find a similar make and model blazer with the drop down gate. I was able to get the piece and actuator (just in case) for $5. You will have to disassemble the gate in order to replace the plastic piece which is easily removed from the actuator, but cannot be fixed with glue, even with crazy glue.
