Question about Canon PowerShot A75 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Canon A75 Canon compact displays picture like a cracked window and shutter will not operate and will not playback. Powers on, lens extends OK, batteries OK. Tried with two different cards with same result. Nothing appears on LCD screen except this cracked window effect. Any idea what could be wrong ? Looks terminal to me.

Pictures completely dark. memory card ok. batteries ok. display of saved pics ok. Have reset defaults.

It's most likely a dead CCD or stuck shutter inside the lens. CCDs use to die on this camera - factory fault. You should contact Canon - they used to offer a free replacement of the CCD.

Hope this helps!

Canon s21s

Think that you mean the S2 IS? If so, Canon has not yet to offered an advisory repair of that particular problem (although many people think they should as this seems to be quite a common problem for the S2). There are however some simple things that you can try to revive your camera from the likely "stuck shutter" problem that you're experiencing. See this blog article.

Screen is black on playback & picture mode

Have you tried taking pictures when the screen is black? Do the pictures also come out black? If so, try putting it in any mode other than auto and turning off the flash (don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the front of the lens and take a picture. You should see a little flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If you see this flicker, and you're still getting black pictures, then you likely have again encountered failure of the CCD. Canon will fix this again for you for free. See the following:
But if no flicker or movement is seen down the center of the lens when you took the picture, then you likely have a stuck shutter. Canon will not fix this for free. But no matter, there are a couple simple fixes for this that don't require opening the camera:

My shutter will not open. The power button presses in and nothing happens. I have since got a new battery that was the problem, shutter still will not open. Camera is not operative, please...

Can you get any signs of life? playback pictures etc? Try pressing the playback button instead of the power button. If camera display works then press the picture button and see if the camera will switch over and the lens extends. Also check if the tab on the battery door is not broken. This operates a micro switch to cut off power

DisplY Issue

No image in capture mode ( camera mode )with no problem in playback is typically ( assuming the lens and shutter work ok ) caused by faulty ? dead CCD sensor...replace.

Canon Powershot A75 blurred LCD display

It sounds like the focus element in your lens is not functioning properly. Does the lens retract completely when you turn off the camera? When you push the button does the camera attempt to focus the image? If you do not see any change in the image when you push the button, and do not hear any sound - then your focus motor is either jammed or malfunctioning. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
