Question about Toshiba Satellite Satellite 5200 Series 15 SXGA LCD Display-LQ150F1LH16-P000353350 CD-ROM Drive

1 Answer

Reinstallation with recovery disk

My Toshiba Satellite 5200 will not recognize the original recovery CD and will not start when booted from the CD Drive. Can I just go and format the C-Drive and will it then reinstall properly? Or how can I change the DMI so it will accept the Disk?

Re: Reinstallation with recovery disk

I've had myself almost same problem in my 5200-801, but with reading DVD's.
It was allready the second dvd/cd drive replaced by Toshiba.
Then I replaced the DVD/CD drive myself because I ran out of guarantee, with one bought from the internet and much cheaper than the original one. A multi drive which even do the lightscribe job and that one works very well.

Hello.. I need some help. I am using toshiba satellite a1O system laptop was fyn till nw..all of a sudden windows doesnt load..when i turn the power on, the toshiba logo is shown..then black...

First thing you do is to see what hard disc installed in your laptop. You can check that by checking it in your bios system. To check in your bios system first turn off your computer then press delete while your laptop is booting up. Then you will see if there is a hard disk detected in your lap top if there is a detected hard drive this means you have a problem in your windows installed in your lap top.
There is also a reason why those message appear if the first boot of your laptop is the CD/DVD ROM. Check you CD/DVD ROM if there a CD inside this may the first on to read while the laptop booting up. Remove the cd inside your CD/DVD ROM. Then restart your laptop. Check your hard disk connector it may have some loose contact thats why your laptop did not recognize the hard disc.
Hope this can help keep on touch with fixya. Hope to hear some testimonial from you. . .

Disk drive does not work. Possibly need a driver. What kind of removable drive? Rewriteable DVD written on face. Toshiba Satellite A15 series bought quite a few years back. Windows XP home.

I would go into the BIOS and make sure that the correct drive and drive type is there. Up on the boot sequence, hit F2 and go into the BIOS.

Also, go to the toshiba website download the drivers you need. I do it all the time.

My Toshiba Satellite Pro, when I turn my laptop the screen comes on with Password= I forgot my password, how do I reset it?

The first question is - did you create a password recovery disk? If not you will have to re-install the operating system.
Your BIOS default will be set to start up from teh DVD drvie - insert the recovery disk and it will re-install the operating system.

My toshiba 5200 has black screen how to repair?

Turn the laptop on, and take it into a darkened room.
If you _dimly_ see your "normal" Windows desktop & wallpaper,
then a $20 part, the "inverter", has failed. Take your computer to
a qualified technician, for disassembly of your computer, replacement of the part, reassembly, and testing.
Obviously, you'll pay $20, plus $60 to $75 for "labour", to get it repaired.

Or, if the computer is still under WARRANTY, exercise the warranty to get it replaced, at no cost to you.

I need to use recovery disc on my laptop 1410/2410 Toshiba

Power down the notebook, as soon as you power it up continually keep tapping on the 0 (zero) key. You should see "Hard disk drive recovery mode"

The "recovery mode" will bring your notebook back to factory default settings so please save your data because you will lose it.

In case Toshiba changed the older models,(which seems to be the case) here is a link to a pdf file from Toshiba

Hope this helps.

I have a laptop Toshiba satellite A30. I have a black screen and some text on it like: PXE-E61 MediaTest Failure PXE-M0F Exiting PXE ROM and it goes continiously, I can't go any further. When I was loaded...

media test failure means that your boot drive has failed ie your hard drive has failed to boot....could be one of a number of reasons
1 hard drive connection could be loose - try taking out the hard drive and reinstalling it
2 the boot sector on the hard drive is corrupt or damaged - try booting off a windows disk and running chkdsk or fixboot command
3 partition table is corrupt - try booting off windows cd and running chkdsk /p from command prompt
4 Hard drive has failed - if machine is still under warranty return for repair if not install new hard drive and reload op system from recovery disks
