Question about Apple iPod MA446LL/A MP3 Player

Persistent error message

I have a 30G video ipod aprox 18 months old which has had very light usage. I have now started receiving an intermittent message \'FireWire connections are not supported. To transfer settings, etc\'. Removing the message by pressing the central button has no effect. I have carried out a reset and a full restore but the problem persists. If I leave my ipod in my Tango speaker system it will after a while produce a rapid clicking sounds as thought something is trying to switch on and off. I wondered if these symptoms may be a sign of a failing battery ? any ideas ?

Re: Persistent error message

The latter symptom (the rapid clicking sounds), is one of a failing hard drive.

When I click on the Mail icon on my ipod touch, I just get a black screen. My touch is 18 months old and I've always been able to retrieve my mail no problem. Any ideas?

The problem could be the Mail application or the email account itself. I searched this problem but it seems that this is NOT a common issue.

First, you may want to try delete the email account from the iPod Touch and re-create it. However, you need to check first the web mail to see if you have the copy of the messages on the web server itself.

If you setup a POP account on your iPod Touch for your email, then the messages could have been deleted after the iPod downloaded the messages. If you have the messages, then go ahead and delete and re-create the email account.

If same problem occur, then it's the Mail application. You need to send your iPod Touch to the Apple Store near you, so that they could reload or re-install the application to your iPod.

Thank you and good luck!

My ipod is frozen!

Don't worry, before you call it broken you should try a hard reset: press menu and center buttons together for 5 sec. That will turn it off and restart it. If it keeps freezing on you, there may be a hard drive issue. There are ipod repair guides online that show you how to replace it.

I can connect to the internet but not to Itunes store, AIM...

Turn off your windows firewall and try connecting again.
If it connects then windows is the culprit.
It shouldn't be your iPod, but it definitely sounds like a firewall issue or an internet connection issue.

The windows firewall is pretty harsh when it comes to programs that they don't endorse.
also, If you want to keep your firewall on, open the security center and firewall, uncheck the box on the bottum to allow exclusion of http: site. It could be checked and only allowing exclusion of https: sites.

Good Luck

Ipod 30G screen is partly black

Has it been dropped anytime in the past? It could be as simple as a loose ribbon cable inside or a damaged circuit board for the video side. Try tapping it around and lightly banging it's back side to see if it comes back for a moment.

Charging ipod

Have you tried connecting your ipod with a different cord? Or maybe a different charger? Also, try to plug it directly into the socket--not a power strip or something like that.

This is an interesting problem.
