Dose the heater have a free standing pilot? Meaning you turn the gas valve knob to pilot position and push down and light the pilot. If so then there is a therm o coupling sticking up when the flame hits it for a min or two and this is what sends a signal back to the gas valve letting it know that a pilot flame is present. If the therm o coupler is bad it will not let the pilot stay lit. also see where the other end of the therm o coupler screws into the gas valve back it out and clean the end up and install it back. Now if it is electronic pilot and the pilot fires and then goes out there is a rod that is in line whit the pilot acts the same as a therm o coupler replace it. if you send me the Model number and make of unit i will be able to help you better.

Replaced thermalcouple and pilot light still won't stay lit

My water heater pilot light won't stay lit

I would try cleaning the thermo couple surfaces with some steel wool... Both where the flame contacts the sensor, and the electrical contacts. Even a small increase in voltage may be enough to hold the pilot valve open. Both black, and white soot on the sensor end, can act as an temperature insulator, lowering the output voltage.

How do I fix the pilot on a CFM Insta-Flame DV34 RN?

Typically, the thermo-couple reaches a certain temperature which sends a signal to the valve body telling it to allow the pilot to stay lit. The easy answer is to replace the thermo-couple. Or, you could just replace the entire pilot assembly to ensure all the parts are new.

Pilot wont stay lit on waterheater. I replaced Thermocouple and that did not fix it. It will stay lit on vacation setting.

Most gas water heater problems can be fixed with yearly service that cleans burner and burner parts, checks gas pressure and bleeds air out of gas line, cleans air intake, and checks for venting and air intake problems.

I have a readyheater model 65-85 the flame will not stay lit im thinking thermal couple is there a way to test this part? or could it be another problem?

If your pilot light will not stay lit when you release pilot light button then chances are that your thermocouple is bad. Make sure that the tip of thermocouple is directly in line with pilot light. Tip of thermocouple should be cherry red if it is properly placed. If pilot will not stay lit then replace it. If you aren't sure about placement of thermocouple you can heat thermocouple with a seperate heat source. If you do this and pilot light stays lit then reposition thermocouple in pilot flame. If it still won't keep pilot burning then replace thermocouple. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Light pilot on Royal deep fryer. Pilot will not stay lit. Second fryer has larger pilot have no trouble keeping it lit. How can I adjust the pilot so that it will stay lit?

there is a small adjustment screw on the gas valve, turn it clockwise to increase pilot,if that does not work the vent cap on the gas regulator on the back of the unit could be stopped up,remove that cap ,clean out or replace unit can operate without it just fine.If you increase the pilot and it still wont stay lit replace the thermocouple

My living room gas heater will not stayb lit

Try replacing the thermo coupler. There should be a little bulb shaped part(like a pencil eraser) that the pilot light heats up .The other end screw into the gas valve. If this is going bad or has gone bad the pilot light will not stay lit. Most of these are under$10.Well good luck and try to stay warm.

Have a Maytag gas dryer, model#:LDG7314AAE serial#:16068237QF, and the flame will not stay lit. It warms up ignites and then after 15 to 30 seconds it shuts off. It repeats the cycle but the flame stays...

Did you change the igniter, or glow coil as it is sometimes called? If it is orange in colour instead of white it needs to be replaced as it is not strong enough to ignite and stay lit. Hope this helps.

Pilot light will not stay lit on model 465FX-R wall mounted gas furnace. Thermocouple was replaced but still won't stay lit. Gas is on at the meter. Any suggestions?

It is possible that gas valve is bad, however, try replacing the pilot orifice located in the pilot assembly. If the flame is inadequate it will not generate the voltage required in the thermocouple. Pilot orifices are less than $10 and can be found at your local heating contractor's parts counter. Bring in the orifice to match.
