One night my sub freaked out it sounded like fireworks or a machine gun it woke up the whole house. I had to unplug from the wall to stop it. now when i plug it back in it makes the load thumping noise again. it makes the noise whether its hooked up to my receiver or not. what can i do to fix it, or is it useless???

I have a high pitch squeal coming from the subwoofer even with the input disconnected. The level is low but the pitch is like a varying whistle.
