How do I clear all the lint out of the dryer which has gone into the space under and behind and beside the drum?

Our dryer is unable to keep tumbling after a short time (if the load is very small) or doesn't start at all anymore if the load is bigger. I believe the problem is that lint has gathered around the drum. The drum is very very difficult to turn by hand. It has become worse and worse as the years go on.
We clean the lint filter before and after every drying process. We make sure the filter is dry before reinserting. We regularly clean the moisture sensor and the exhaust duct. The problem is, I think, with the bearing shield. This shield lies in behind the lint filter but on one side, the opposite side of the moisture sensor, it extends farther than the lint filter itself. I can even see it in the illustration on page 23 of the manual where it is discussing cleaning the bearing shield. Therefore, when the dust goes through the bearing shield, most of the lint goes into the lint filter. But there are a couple inches that does not go into the filter and therefore is going directly into the insides of the machine, around the drum. We have tried very hard to get a tube inside to vacuum out the dust and a long poker or pole to try and grab more out but it is impossible to get most of it. It seems a ridiculous system and I just don't know what to do. I've tried calling the company but it is always busy. I'm going to try again. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi , it sounds as if your bearings on the shaft of the drum need replacing . The seals that protect the bearings will wear down through time and that leads to the ingress of moisture and starts the rusting of the ball bearings that will start to sound very noisy. One way to check is try and push the drum upwards while empty and let it go see if it clunks you should be able to feel it in your hand .
But what about the lint that gets in beside the lint filter? We can feel it in there. There must be pounds and pounds of it by now. I had someone come by to see if they could check it out but he didn't know how to look inside around the drum. Is there a way to just see inside? But what about the lint that gets in beside the lint filter? We can feel it in there. There must be pounds and pounds of it by now. Are you sure you dont need a professional Dry Vent inspection and cleaning?

Firt make sure the lint filter is clear and the air exhaust pipe is clear. Then check the drum gasket. Behind the drum, there is a heater. The drum rotates and the heated air is passed from the stationary heater to the drum via a gasket, usually stuck to the back of the drum andthis rubs against the stationary heater wall. This gasket can become frayed or broken and bits can be ignited by the heater. The gasket will need to be replaced if this is the problem.
Motor won't work Lint screen hi-limit (thermal cutout) tripped. Clean lint screen and clean lint and other debris from front shield, then replace hi-limit. Also check exhaust duct length & # of elbows. Wire harness failed. Run resistance or continuity checks to track down broken wire or connector. Replace failed wire harness. Display shows "E:01" during drying. Lint filter, air duct or air damper is blocked. Air leaking past felt drum seal. Air duct is too long, too small or has too many bends. Inadequate ventilation around dryer (i.e. in a closet). Clean out filter, air duct and air damper. Replace felt drum seal. If seal doesn't fit snugly onto drum, wet felt and dry it by running a timed dry cycle for 20 minutes (felt will shrink and fit drum snugly). Shorten, enlarge, reroute and reduce # of bends in air duct. Move dryer to an area
Yes there could be another problem..you need to check to see that the thermostats are not faulty. They are normally located in the air tube where it comes from the blower going to the drum.
Hope this helps
Take a flashlight and look inside the drum at the holes on the back end of the drum where the hot air comes in. On mine, there is an air deflector on the back side of the drum and the space between this deflector and the drum was packed with lint. The lint blocked about half the holes. I had to take the drum out, remove this deflector by removing four screws inside the drum then cleaning out the lint. The lint was all brown and scorched.
To replace a thermostat, 1st unplug the unit. Next remove the bottom panel (2 5/16 screws) The part under where your lint screen goes is your is your lint duct. Next to it on the right and back just a little bit is your thermostat. Most people change a thermostat when there are other problems causing long dry times. Check your vent to make sure it's clean and flowing well. Make sure your vent hose behind the dryer is not kinked or bent. Clean your mositure sensors (the silver bars on the inside of your dryer drum) by rubbing them with the abrasive side of a sponge or a smooth sand paper to remove the clear build up from detergents and dryer sheets. Lastly check the area underneath your lint screen. Is there much build up? This can be mostly cleared just by using a long thin vaccume cleaner attachment.
THE AIR FLOW THROUGH THE DRYER BEGINS UP THROUGH THE HEATER AND INTO THE DRUM THROUGH THE HOLES INSIDE THE DRUM TO THE LEFT IN THE REAR.
THESE HOLES ARE METALIC IN COLOR AND MAY SHOW SIGNS OF DISCOLORATION DUE TO THE HEAT OF THE HEATER ASSEBLY. FROM THERE, THE AIR WILL FLOW ACROSS THE CLOTHES AND THROUGH THE LINT FILTER.
IF YOUR LINT FILTER IS LOCATED ON TOP OF THE DRYER,
THE HOLES WILL BE IN THE BACK WALL OF THE DRUM ON THE RIGHT. IF YOUR FILTER IS LOCATED IN THE FRONT OF THE DRUM, THE HOLES WILL BE JUST BELOW IT.
USUALLY, LINT WILL COLLECT DOWN INSIDE THE SPACE WHERE YOU INSERT THE FILTER ON A FRONT LOCATION.
PULL THE FILTER OUT AND LOOK DOWN INSIDE. USE A CENTER CARDBOARD FROM GIFT WRAP TO CLEAN OUT THIS AREA. FLATTEN OUT THE CARDBOARD ROLL AND PUT IT DOWN IN THE SPACE ATTACHING THE OTHER END TO A VACUUM CLEANER HOSE.
ALSO, DISCONNECT THE DUCT WORK FROM THE REAR OF THE DRYER AND CLEAN OUT THE DRYER DUCT AND THE HOUSE HOLD EXHAUST DUCTING. WHEN REATTACHING THE FLEX DUCT TO THE BACK OF THE DRYER, MAKE SURE THERE ISN'T ANY EXCESS FLEX DUCT SNAKING BEHIND THE DRYER. CUT IT TO THE LENGTH NEEDED. MAKE SURE IT ISN'T FLATTENED BETWEEN THE DRYER AND THE WALL WHEN YOU MOVE THE DRYER BACK INTO PLACE.
