if you are talking about te part where the filter goes in, i found it best to get a cup of warm water and take filter out and add water and swirl it around a little dishsoap in the water will help. if your talking about inside the actual ball that rolls. there is nothing in their you should need to worry about that is where the motor is and usually doesnt need cleaning because of all the great filter system that dyson has good luck
From what you've described, it sounds as if you may have a blockage inside your machine's internal hose or changeover valve. This is housed within the ball assembly, so it may not be immediately noticeable. Please follow the steps shown in the images below:

Please read this answer all the way through there is something that may be relevant (strike out 'important') at the end !
Maybe it's this
"clip that holds the filter in place and the locating lug of the access flap to gently rub together as the ball rotates and create a slight clicking noise as the appliance is moved around (though is not routinely noticed due to the motor noise)"
(from Fully Cleaned Serviced Refurbished Dyson DC25 Animal Ball Vacuum Cleaner )
stop press - I just saw this - if you do not have proper Dyson brand HEPA filters - see end of answer - you may get a loud clicking sound....
The manual tells you about removal and cleaning HEPA filter - the All floors version has one as well)
Otherwise I can only refer to Dyson support, there are various ways of contacting them given at the top right of this webpage Support forDC25 Multi Floor
(the user guide manual is downloadable from this webpage)
Sounds to me as if maybe there is an irregularity on the ball that is contacting the body/ball housing every time the ball does round....unfortunately this makes the ball diameter ~8cm which too small.
If your DC24 doesn't seem to be picking up as well as it should be, and you've already tried washing the filters, it's likely that your machine has a blockage. To locate and remove any obstructions, please take a look at the steps shown in our online Support guide:
If you still feel your machine isn't working correctly after following the Support guide, our experts will be happy to talk you through some further troubleshooting checks. You can reach our freephone customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).
Hi Leta, I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC24. If your machine doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide to identify any issues:
In normal use, the filters in this machine need to be washed at least once a month, as shown in the video below. Please use cold water without any detergent, and make sure the filters are totally dry before you replace them. This may take at least 24 hours, and it can help to place them somewhere warm, such as by a radiator, or in an airing cupboard. If you'd like further assistance or advice, please give us a call on 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 0800 298 0298 (UK).
DC24's soleplate is designed to seal closely with the floor surface to ensure high pick-up of ground-in dirt, grit and pet hair. This can mean that occasionally larger debris will get pushed along - we'd recommend using the wand and hose to pick up this sort of thing.
However, just to be sure your machine is working correctly, I'd encourage you to follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:
It's also a good idea to give the filters a wash - in normal use, this should be done at least once a month, as shown in the video below. We recommend using cold water without any detergent. Please allow at least 24 hours for the filters to dry completely before replacing them - it can help to leave them somewhere warm, such as beside a radiator, or in an airing cupboard.
I hope this helps - if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please give our customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC25 Animal. If the Ball seems harder than usual to rotate, this may be because the filter inside the Ball is out of position. Try removing and refitting the filter, making sure it locks into place with an audible 'click' - the video below may help you in doing this.
This should resolve the issue, but if you'd like any further assistance with your machine, we'll be happy to help. Please give us a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC24. If the Ball will not roll, it may be because the filter cover or HEPA filter are out of position. Please see the video below for guidance on how to check both of these are correctly fitted in place.
