Question about Panasonic CT-27SL13 27" TV

1 Answer

Power Problem I was watching my TV and suddenly it went black. When I turn it on I hear a click but the screen stays off. There was no evidence of a power surge, or anything like that? Does anyone know what's wrong? Is it worth going to a professional?

Re: Power Problem

Can you hear any slight ticking noise following he click? It's one of two probabilities, either the HOT or the FBT - - The horizontal output transistor in that unit is a common failure. It uses a 2sc5902, which you can sub to a 2sd2539 or an NTE2353, either will work as well if not better than the original. And it only takes a shop a very short time to do a continuity test acress the E&B (emitter and base pins) on the HOT to determine if it's shorted.
When the HOT shorts the shutdown circuit will pulse, causing a very faint ticking sound, cycling in it's attempt to power the unit.
If you're going to have a shop do call around and ask what they charge to replace the HOT like you know what you're doing...
Let me know how it turns out..

TV suddenly shut off - and now won't turn back on. Screen went totally black. When you try to turn it back on, screen stays dark, and tv has a humming sound that wouldn't shut off until unplugged. Not...

Did this unit fail after a power outage or passing storm? If so could be lost of component in the low voltage power supply circuit or degausing relay circuit. I would strongly suggest you seek help from a qualified repair center. Don not attempt to repair dangerous.

Toshiba 36HF71 has sound but no picture

Same problem with mine. Relays click, sound, no picture and a flashing power LED. I finally found a schematic online. I went through the high voltage circuits and found the power transistor 2SC5570 was shorted out. There is also a pico fuse in that area but my was not open. I replaced the transistor and prayed the flyback transformer was not shorted. It wasn't, I'm watching my old 36" right now. Not a bad fix (17.00) bucks. Wonder what a service tech would have charged ;)

Black screen but have sound

If it is not a hardware problem, it is most likely the Closed Captioning system.
If you can still see the on-screen menu, go into your TV's menus and disable Closed Captioning.
