Question about JVC AV-35750 35" TV

JVC AV 35750 single horizontal line

I have JVC AV 35750 CRT TV and intermittently the picture becomes a single horizontal line. If I bang it, or off/on (after 30sec-1min), it comes back on. Sound is OK.

I am also seeing horizontal stray lines some times.

The TV is about 10 years old. Thank you in advance.

    Bill,

You are really great and your solution is right on dot. I resoldered IC421, turned back on, it is better than before.

Though I bought C424&C425, since the picture came back, I did not replace them. What are the symptoms if any/both of these capacitors fail or not working to their specs?

Thank you very much. You saved us more than a grand in investing new TV.

    Thank you.

    Bill,

I thought I selected "FixYa!" button, which should give this solution highest rating possible.

How to fix rating? I am not too sure.

I have a JVC 27", not sure of the model #, but read this solution and it is spot on. I resoldered the pins on C421 and the coax connector block that also showed similar cracks and the TV is up and running again with no more single white line acroos the center of the screen. Thanks.

Jeremey,
It's ring cracks on the solder joints of the vertical IC... IC421 i mounted to a small heat sink on the board. With the unit off and unplugged remove the board and locate IC421 (LA7832) and closely examine the pins connecting this component to the foil side of the board. You'll notice small rings around the footings that are actually open cracks in the solder, caused by heating and cooling over a period of years. Simply and carefully reflow some solder over these cracked joints, careful not to get the ic too hot in the process, and put it back together.. That should sole the problem...
Another problem we encounter a lot in the vertical deflection circuit of this unit are the two feeder caps C424 (100UF/35V) and C425 (470uf/35v).. If you're already there you might want to go ahead and replace these as well - save taking the back off again if they go bad..

C425 could be cause some line interference, but if it opens IC421 will short.

Both of those are in the vertical circuit, the 100uf directly feeds the IC421 and if it has a high equivalent series resistance it can cause unnecessary stress on that component resulting in heat and then possibly failure. Simply, a much slower death... If it's running okay don't be too worried about it...

I am curious about your rating... If this solved the problem why an almost there rating??

sounds like an intermittent problem. it could be a cold solder and it needs to be resolder it at the VERTICAL IC or transistor section , if your good with tools , you can do it yourself , otherwise take TV to a nearest repair shop, hope this helps , AJ

I changed capacitor C926 (1000Uf 16V) on main board. It solved the problem. I went with 1000uF 63V as it was readily available...it's okay to go with higher voltage. It was hard to fit it on because of the larger size but it worked.

POWER WON'T TURN ON . YES, POWER SUPPLY OUTLET IS GOOD

Replace capacitor C926 near center of circuit board chassis (label is on the bottom) by a 1000uF 50V. Mind the polarity!

JVC 27" CRT TV AV-27BP3 display shows single horizontal line

I have a similar problem on my CRT computer monitor (AcerView 76c). It is an old screen and I think it is just at the end of its life, much like your TV. Having some background in physics, I would be pretty sure that the problem is with the cathode ray tube's vertical deflection system. The horizontal deflection electrodes are working while the vertical one is not. This results in a display of a single horizontal line (or in my case, a few superimposed) in the centre of the screen. Where both X and Y (horizontal and vertical) deflectors fail then the electron gun firing would result in a single bright spot in the dead-centre of the screen.

So really, we have no choice but to move on and buy a new set as repair is probably just as, if not more, expensive than replacement with a new device. Seeing as your post was in 2007, I hope you managed to solve the problem.

Best wishes,
SZ (Sydney, AUS)

TV has bright horizontal line

do some voltage checking on the ic and make sure that volages are reaching there, about 32 volts. if it is reaching, then you can change the ic there. but before you do that, check around that ic and make sure everything is ok there. good luck
