Now the dog feet won't move back up into position

Hello, Carole -

If you have the owner's manual for your Janome Decor Excel 5018 sewing machine, then you can find the diagram naming the parts of the sewing machine (page 2, English text) and showing part #22, the drop feed lever. This is the lever which controls the feed dog.

If that lever does not move either way, then there may be something jamming the feed dog (like lint) or it may need cleaning and oiling.

If you don't have the manual for your machine, see the image to which I refer here:
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/994905/Janome-Decor-Excel-5018.html?page=8#manual

See this page from the manual to find out how to clean the feed dog:
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/994905/Janome-Decor-Excel-5018.html?page=78#manual

Another possibility for the feed dog not moving is if you have your machine set to the "free-motion" or "darning" operation, which disables the feed dog.

Whete is the lever to lift up the feed dog

Most of them is this way:
Pull your storage holding compartment out.
There is a switch there to lift or push down. This is it.
* If your stitch length is set to zero the feed dog will not go above the plate. It will appear the switch isn't functioning. Make sure the stitch length is above zero.

Fabric will not feed through feed dog

check the feed dogs in the needle plate area, you should be able
to feel them with your index finger, if you can't feel them, check for
a lever or knob that sets the up & down postion of the feed dogs.
the name of the machine & model number are not mentioned in the
question. do you have a manual?

Sewing from m-memory

Hi Ann,
m-memories are not stitched with the hoop or embroidery unit. They are stitched with the #2 sewing foot and with the feed dogs up just like any of the 9mm decorative stitches on the machine.
