The pilot light will not turn off after the burner is on... I think it over heats, because it will just shut off after several minutes.... any suggestions? Thank you

The pilot light must remain on, even when the main burner is on, to keep the thermocouple hot. If the thermocouple cools off, the gas flow shuts off. It sounds like something is interrupting the gas flow. If this is an LP heater, try replacing the regulator.

Windchaser patio heater

You have to hold the button down for 30 seconds at least before turning the knob to ON. If you are doing this and it still goes out after you let up on the knob, then it needs a new flame sensor, or thermocouple. Same thing different names.
