Have you tried ignoring the message and letting it boot normally? The computer might be set to show the POST screen on boot. Let it run and see what happens.

Got an Acer 4050 from ebay and it goes straight to enter boot password

can you click on f12 before it goes to boot password?
The F12 Boot Menu allows you to choose which device that you would like to boot the computer's Operating System from by pressing the F12 key during the computer's Power On Self Test, or POST process. Some notebook and netbook models have the F12 Boot Menu disabled by default.
If this sounds like your problem then try this:
If this sounds like
To enable the F12 Boot Menu:

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Press the F2 key to enter computer's BIOS Setup during Power-On Self-Test, or POST, process while the Acer logo is being displayed.
  3. Press the Right Arrow key to select Main
  4. Select F12 Boot Menu
  5. Press the Enter key
  6. Select Enabled
  7. Press the Enter key
  8. Press the F10 key and then press the Enter key to save the changes and restart the computer.
Note: Not all Acer notebooks or netbooks have the F12 Boot Menu feature. Computers that do not have the F12 Boot Menu feature will not be able to enable the feature within the BIOS. I hope this works for you if not, then the problem is obviously not the boot menu. Go to Acer support for more help

HOW TO GET TO BOOT MENU ON ACER D260 WITH CD

You have first turn on "boot from cd" in bios menu (ie. where u see the ACER logo when u turn oin the laptop, the first screen you see). This can be done by pressing the hotkey (usually, F2, Del, F12) it depends on the manufacturers. After that save and exit. Reboot with the cd in the drive, wait for "press any key to boot from cd...." and that's it!

Acer computer is frozen on screen which reads press f12 or del to enter setup. when computer comes on it does not beep so i cannot use keyboard all the lights on the keyboard aare off. HELP!!

From the description you are giving, it appears that the system is not detecting a bootable hard disk drive. Hold the power button on the system till it powers off. once system is off, try the following:
  1. Ensure no floppy diskette is in the A: if system has a floppy drive
  2. Disconnect all external items (Printer, scanner, network connection) leave only video and keyboard connected to system.
  3. Try powering system on again
If the system gives the same message, try rebooting and pressing F12 ONCE at the ACER screen and see if you can get a 1 time boot menu. If you can get the boot menu, select CD-ROM, and put you WINDOWS CD in the optical drive, see if system will boot to the CD. If you can, then at the first prompt, press R to enter recovery console, and see if you can run the command CHKDSK /R (then press enter)
If chkdsk runs, then reboot and see if the error has gone away. IF you cannot run CHKDSK then the hard disk drive has likely failed and will need replacement.

Acer Aspire T180

check your removable media disk drives and make sure that you don't have like a jump drive or CD-Rom that the computer doesn't like. If that doesn't work, enter the BIOS setup (usually F2, F12, ESC or something like that....check the bottom of the screen.) and find the Boot Order settings & move hard drive to #1

Uw systeem erkent niet de harde schijfaandrijving. Het is zeer mogelijk dat sinds XP CD niet de harde aandrijving die de aandrijving zelf heeft ontbroken zal zien en zal moeten worden vervangen.
