These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.
Type in the brand name of your device, in the search box [at the top right] of the display window and the Search will start at once as you type in, and will show you all the related posts. It will make surf easy.
or attempting to do it yourself (wotanserver), I would suggest the following. Take out the battery and leave it out overnight. Then put it back in the following day and try turning the phone on. If this didn't help, then flashing is required. You can try flashing with SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) which is free (wotanserver requires credits=money). Good luck!
