which way do you think is easist to do, if i install it on my computer does the printer need to be connected at all times in order for everyone else to use?

  • teddy09 Nov 19, 2007

hey, is there any way to connect the printer directly to a router and get the IP address that way. this will make the printer not relient on being connected to the one computer.

  • teddy09 Nov 28, 2007

can you please tell me how to directly connect the printer to a router and retrieve the computer's IP address and the name of the printer so i can network it with the computers within the office. :)

  • teddy09 Nov 28, 2007

sorry not the computer's IP address but the printer's IP Address.

  • teddy09 Nov 28, 2007

I get this error when i'm trying to connect to the printer on the Network. "Windows cannot connect to he printer. Either the printer name was typed incorrectly, or the specified printer has
lost its connection to the server."

i have typed in the correct IP address and the correct name of the priner.

    please suggest solutions to this.

On the computer with the printer hooked up to it:
Type 'cmd'
Type 'ipconfig' in the command prompt that appears
Take note of the 'IP Address'
Close this window out
Control Panel
Printers and Faxes
Right Click the printer you want to share
Sharing Tab
Bubble in Share this printer
Take note of the printer name
Hit OK

On the computer that you want the printer to work on, that is another place on the network:
Control Panel
Printers and Faxes
Add a Printer, Next
A Network Printer, Next
Bubble in 'connect to this printer'
In the 'Name' field, type in \\\printer name
---Where the X's are the IP address from the original computer and the printer name is the shared name that took note of when sharing the printer on the computer that it is directly hooked up to. Do not forget the backslashes. More than likely, it'll look like: \\\HPPhoto or something along those lines.
Click Next
Decide if you want that printer to be the default printer or not, Next
And that's it.
Try to print a test page.

Is the printer being installed on the computer itself or is it being plugged into a print server/hub?

Wireless printer configura

These instructions generally apply to all networkprinters with built-in network cards (print servers) such as HP LaserJetprinters, IBM Infoprint laser printers etc. This example is for a network HP LaserJet printer. To install a HP printer (with built-in Jetdirect printserver) as a network printer you need to do the following -
1. Open the printer's menu and enablethe Network Card - these print servers use a static IP address therefore, configure the IP address of the network card so it matches the IP range of yournetwork. Eg. If your IP's are 192.168.0.*** then set the network card to a highnumber say 100. (This is to prevent a conflict with the router issuing the sameIP address to a computer on your network). Then set the Subnet Mask IP address to If you have a wireless router then check the IPaddress range that the router issues to the computers on your network andconfigure the static IP address in the printer's network configurationaccordingly.
2. Install the HP printer driver onyour computer/s using the LPT printer port.
3. Connect the printer with a LAN cableto the network hub/router.
4. Click on Printers and Faxes - rightclick on the HP printer and click on Properties.
5. Click on Ports and click on AddPort.
6. In available ports - click onStandard TCP/IP Port and then Configure port.
7. Tick the IP box and type in the IPaddress of the HP's printer IP address.
8. Click OK and tick Enablebi-directional support and then OK
9. Remove the printer cable, then do a test print to see if the printerprints correctly.
Install the HP printer driver on every computer on your network and configurethe printer's TCP/IP port as previously detailed.Do a test print page to check the printer.
You can now print from any computer on your network.

Please what is the steps for correcting my wireless printing, my vista/laptop cannot see my printer to print wirelessly any more I have an hp 6310 all in one. There is another computer in the house that...

To be able to set up wireless printer configuration, there are three basic items that you need to have. They are a high-speed broadband Internet connection (with modem), a high speed wireless router and wireless network adaptors. These three items will be used in setting up the wireless printer. Assuming that there is already an existing network in the home or office space, then all that is needed to do to make the printer available in the network through the operating system’s networking wizard. If not, then the network must first be established, only then the printer will be made available through that network. get more information and help for Wireless Printer Configuration .

Epson sx510w prints using a cable but can't get it to print wireless

The specs for your model Epson allows you to connect the you network by wireless and by LAN cable.

The specs are as follows :-
Wi-Fi Wireless LAN IEEE 802.11b/g – compatible with 802.11n*
*Transmission rate will be limited to 802.11g and will operate in the 2.4 GHz frequency band
Ethernet Wired LAN IEEE 802.3 (100BASE-TX, 10BASE-T)
Other PictBridge
Wireless security
WEP – 64bit
WEP – 128bit
WPA – PSK (TKIP) – compliant with WPA2
WPA – PSK (AES) – compliant with WPA2

To connect the printer by a LAN cable you need to configure the Epson for an IP address that suits your network configuration and connect the LAN cable to your wireless router/hub.

The reason why you cannot print using wireless is because the wireless configuration in the Epson is not setup with the router's wireless configuration ie. SSID WPA encryption etc.

For instructions of setting up a LAN network printer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

For instructions on setting up a wireless printer, the Epson wireless settings need to be configured with the router's wireless settings. Go into your router's wireless and note the SSID, and encryption settings etc and configure the Epson's wireless settings with the router's wireless settings. This will allow the Epson to connect to the wireless router. Please click on this link for instructions to secure your wireless network, configure the wireless router (if you have not already do so) and configure the wireless card in the computers and wireless printer (the instructions for configuring the wireless card in the printer is the same as for the wireless card in the computers via the printer's menu screen).

A network printer must have a built-in print server or be attached to a print server device on the network then all the computers on the network can access this printer.
For a run of the mill printer to work as a network printer it needs to be attached to a computer which is on your network and the printer needs to be setup as a shared printer. This printer and computer must always be switched on for the other computers on the network to access and print to this printer. This method does not require any additional software.

Can't print

WPA keys is security key for ur network and when u run the wireless setuo wizard, use the key pad on the printer to punch in the WPA or WEP key.......

if u were using ur printer before wirelessly, then u should still have the ip address stored on   ur printer,
1) print network configuration by setup menu of the printer (setup>>network>>veiw network settings>>print network configuration page)
2)it will print out, in that u will have ip address.
3) go to priner and faxes, right click on the printer icon and go to properties and under ports tab, click on configure port and change the ip addres for the ip address wat u have if that doesnt work, click on add a port and select standard tcp ip port and new port at the bottom of the window and entry the ip address and proceed with that,,,,,,,,,,,it should resolve ur issue....
