You are most likely using a web-based email system on your tablet, so none of the emails are actually on your tablet, they are in the cloud.

Create a new folder and move the old emails to the new folder.

Highlite more than one and see if you can delete them that way. I do that in Yahoo and Outlook.

press and hold "ctrl" key on Keyboard and select emails by left click of mouse button after that delete

Should also just be able to select Menu->Folders, get on the folder you want cleared, click Menu->Delete All. If you don't have items in that folder you will see Delete All but you won't be able to select it.
