Question about Compaq Presario 1800T Notebook

1 Answer

Can I increase Maximum Memory for 1800T?

I have read that the 1800T presario laptop has a maximum memory of 320 MB.

I bought a 512 low-density memory, and I placed it in my 1800T.

The computer is showing that it has 320 MB.

Is there anyway to change the BIOS, etc. to allow for a larger maximum memory? 512MB ? 1GB?

Re: Can I increase Maximum Memory for 1800T?

No, The reason why your computer says it has lower memory is because either

A- your bios can only recognize up to 320mb. --possible fix via upgrading/flashing your bios --check manufacturer's website.
B- your on board video card shares memory with the system.

There are 2 memory slots; one is under the keyboard, and the other is accessible through the center plate on the bottom of the laptop. Here are links to the replacement diagrams and HP replacement part numbers. You can have a maximum of 2GB memory in the laptop.

Video card....

Most cheaper laptops do not include a full-blown graphics board with expensive dedicated graphics memory. Instead, system memory is shared between the CPU and the graphics subsystem.
How much memory actually is reserved for graphics purposes depends on the software you are running. The frame buffer (the memory used to store the pixels on your desktop) is only part of it - games, for example use a lot of memory to store textures and geometry data.
  • Minimum Graphics Memory: 128 MB
The smallest memory size your system must reserve for CPU/Graphics sharing.
  • Maximum Graphics Memory: 1341 MB
The largest chunk your system can configure for sharing.
From the DirectX report you can see, it currently uses 27 MB only.
Your laptop lacks the CPU and graphics power to run high demand games anyway, so 128 MB of shared memory should be sufficient. You can configure this to 256 or 512 MB in the BIOS configuration menu, but I doubt it will make any noticeable difference for you.

I added a 256 mb ram on top of my original 256 mb ram to make it 512 mb on my ASUS A6500R. how come when i check my system properties it show 384 mb? what's the maximum expandable ram for my laptop?

Check you system information on the net, it should say "it support up to ??gb. Make sure that the memory that you bought isn't it a high density memory, if it is it will only recognize half of the RAM.

What is the maximum memory capacity of acer aspire 5600 model

According to the specs of this laptop model, it supports up to 4 GB of DDR2 533/667 MHz memory using two soDIMM modules. This means that you will have to replace the 512 MB memory module already installed in your laptop, & replace it with 2 soDIMM DDR2 533/667 MHz memory modules, each of 2 GB capacity.
