TV Won't Get Off Line

My old remote broke when I acctidently dropped it...When the remote broke the TV was on Line because I was watching a DVD, well now I bought a universal remote but after I programed the remote the TV still won't get off line

- I can't get the stupid thing off "Line". I have a universal remote programmed & it turns the TV on & off, changing the volume, but it won't do anything with the channels.
