Compaq Presario V2000 touchpad/battery charging problems

About 2 wks ago my touchpad started working poorly while my computer was charging. Eventually the touchpad would not work while the computer was plugged-in/charging. The mouse-arrow on the screen would not move in any direction that I wanted it to move. Then my computer stopped charging while it was turned on. I had to completely shut it off before it would charge. Once it was turned off it would charge fine, and while it worked off that charged battery (without being plugged in) it worked fine.

I bought a new charger in hopes that it would fix the problem.

It mostly has fixed the problem. However, I am beginning to see problems with my pointer(mouse-arrow) when the computer is plugged-in charging.

Any ideas??

I had my computer completely checked over about 3 months ago (right before my warrenty ran out). They told me my computer was very clean and pretty much free of dust.

I can hear the fan running on the computer.....but maybe it's related to the computer getting hot....i'm nto sure.

Any help would be appreciated.

The original problem of the mouse pad not working happened whenever the computer was plugged it....if it was for just a short time or for a long time.

Now it happens at random when my computer is charging. Basically, all of a sudden my mousepad will start acting up. Once I notice it acting funny I unplug my computer, and the mousepad is fine again.

    I bought it in August 2005. Just a little over 2 y.o.

  • NancyJo Nov 13, 2007

The mousepad itself is hotter than other areas on my laptop. It's also hotter than the left side of the comp (where I think the main hardware is).

Best buy-Geek Squad. They did their whole get up on it....before I lost my warrenty. It's the left side that is getting hot. The fan is also on the left side. THe best buy guys told me that there was something important on the left side, but sadly I don't remeber what it was....most likely my hard drive.

  • NancyJo Nov 13, 2007

They said the cleaned out the fan and that I had very little dust in computer.

I think I probably agree with you on the quality of employee's at Best Buy......

Either way, I'm not really sure what I should do about my mouse-touch pad and the battery charging situation.

Do you think the best option is to try reinstalling the touchpad? or should I buy some compressed air to clean out my computer?

I noticed you were talking about over heating issues. Does the mouse issue happen when the computer is on for a period time?

I know with some laptops there is software for the "gadgets" on the mouse pad. If you have software related to it.. try reinstalling.

I am getting mixed thoughts of what you maybe talking about... please explain.

Okay, now if you place your hand around the mouse pad or on the mouse pad does it get hot? Any heat difference does make a difference.

If not, I would say reinstall the OS.

Your hard drive would be on the right side of the computer i believe where your palm sits. If it is getting hot I would check the fans. Who did you get it check out by?

they maybe talking about the cpu which controls the whole processes of the computer.

That is the hottest part of the computer... sounds to me they did not clean the fans.. Not to offend anyone but I'm not a fan of geek squad.. i know people they hired and yeah, no comment.

With me operating my own business, I would recommend doing both, Now I
personally would take apart the laptop and blow the air out because
blowing air thru the fan will not just clear the fan but will blow the dust back into the computer.

Try both and let me know how it goes

My compaq presario v2000 built in mouse is not moving while the external mouse is working what do I do to fix this problem

alright, so you're saying that the touchpad ceases to function when you have the external plugged in? that is probably normal behavior set in the mouse settings in control panel, if you're saying it's not working at all there should be a button to the right of the touchpad that is used to enable and disable that device.

Battery problem with HP Compaq Presario V2000 laptop

When batteries fail, they usually lose the cells inside them, which means that the cell is no longer able to function as a holding cell for power and therefore cannot do its job anymore, when a battery fails to hold and refuses charging it is bad and needs to be recycled. The flashing is telling you to purchase a new battery. The larger the number of cells in the battery, the longer and better it will perfrom,,RE: 6 cell, 9 cell, 12 cell.

Battery not charging...but is recognized by V2000

My guess since the battery checked fine in another laptop would indeed be the charging board or charging circuit on the motherboard.

Missing drivers for compaq presario v2000 machine

SOLUTION!!!

**Even though your computer may SAY that it is a Presario V2000, it may have an entirely different product number for downloading drivers specific to your particular configuration.**

1) Look at the serial code on the back/bottom of your computer: there is a number starting with p/n (ex. p/nEX664UA#APL) This code identifies your computer beyond the V2000 label.

2) Go to the compaq/hp website: http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/welcome.html#Support

3) select "Download Drivers and software(and firmware)"

4) THEN, enter your P/N Instead of "Presario V2000" into the product name/number box, and hit enter.

Select your operating system, and you will be redirected to a page listing all the necessary drivers for your model.

On the left of your screen, you will see a box that says "your product" with a picture of a laptop, and a model number beneath it. THIS IS YOUR ACTUAL MODEL NUMBER (Mine was Compaq Presario V2610CA Notebook PC).

5) Download and install the drivers you need, and gappy geeking!!!

Touchpad doesn't respond

MY SOLUTION - Hello, I have Compaq Presario V2000 Laptop and at once my touchpad stopped working.

So i rebooted it several times but it still didn't work.

Then i detached the battery from the laptop and let it like that for 5 min. I attached the battery again and the touchpad was working again.

So, try the simplest solutions first before you start messing with complicating solutions.

Good luck !
