Question about Epson Stylus CX5400 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Error message I replaced the ink cartridges now I get an error message. The error message is  Printer error - - - -  See your documentation and call service if necessary. I dont even know where to call.

This resolution, the only working one I could find for the generic "Printer Error" message, was posted by FixYa user willyinfcva:

"I downloaded the Epson CX5400 manual from 2manuals.com, and the remedies for the printer error light were plain and fell into 5 categories; print or carriage motor ohms out of spec (not likely), a latch holding the paper eject mechanism not locked down, or one of the sensors for head or paper position not functioning properly. Confident with this new information, I aerodusted both sensors, cleaned a smudge off the CR alignment strip behind the head carriage, and also reseated the head for good luck, as I'd had it out before. I ran a test and ... it worked!"

Hi, I am assuming that you tried to turn it off and on again, also are there any lights flashing on the machine? If you go to the Epson website and choose support you can choose your printer and go through a troubleshooter which has some simple problems, but if you don't feel comfortable doing that then contacting a service center would probably be easier for you. Depending on where you are in the world there are several ways to contact your service center. I am posting the site for USA but if that is not where you are then let me know and I will give you the link for your closest place otherwise you may be able to navigate your way from the link that I am sending you.

Epson cx3200 printer has printing problem


Hello cockie ,

You can diagnose most problems by checking the control panel LED's for ink out, paper-out or copier problem.
If a problem occurs while you're printing, you'll see an error message in the progress window on your computer.
It may also be helpful to try running a printer nozzle check.

See the following message problems and solutions:

What is the problem with the error message: Error:0x88109884?


Does any other information come up with the error code? Some 0x errors can be resolved by removing the ink cartridges and resetting the printer.

Disconnect the data cable from the printer (and the computer - optional but often helpful). With the unit on, remove the ink cartridges, then wait until the message "Insert Ink Cartridges" is displayed on the LCD panel. Then unplug the power cord from the back of the printer (unplugging the unit from the wall is optional but again can help). Wait at least 60 seconds, then plug in the power cord (first to the wall and then the printer). Turn on the printer (if needed). Reinsert the ink cartridges when you see the message. Close all open doors and print a calibration page if prompted to do so. Finally, reconnect the USB cable and try printing. If the error occurs again, the all-in-one needs service. You need to decide if it is worthwhile for you if the unit is out of warranty. If the error includes "Ink System Failure" then other items need to be checked. The cartridges themselves may be clogged or damaged, the printhead may need cleaning or replacing, or the printer may need service. See the link above and follow the link to solutions for errors with "Ink system failure". Note: you can't return a new print head if you replace it and the printer still needs service.

Error message -see documentation & call service after stop print


I suggest you install new Genuine Ink Cartridges turn off wait 15 minutes and turn back on. Clear what you have in que, and begin the print job again.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. That sounds like your problem. Also in Purchasing the Brother's . Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, etc. These printers have a chip, that will detect if it is Generic or Genunie. When Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, but you have to fill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for the PRINTERS. I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers but they’re always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. Don’t waste too much ink in cleaning it.

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

Brought c5180 two 1/2 years ago. starting using product 8 months ago, printed maybe 500 pages. replace ink when needed. now printer say i need to replace cyan ink which i did twice. brought it in for...


Complete the steps below in the order presented to resolve the problem. It might not be necessary to complete all of the steps.
NOTE: The printer will not operate unless all six ink cartridges are installed. Also, HP cannot guarantee the quality of refilled or remanufactured ink cartridges. Step one: Reset the printer CAUTION: Do NOT perform any other type of reset on the printer before the ink initialization process has been completed.
  1. Without turning the power off, remove the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall socket.
  2. Wait 30 seconds and reconnect the power cord to the printer and to the wall socket. Turn the unit on if it is not already turned on.
  3. Check the printer for the error message. If the error message still displays, go to the next step.
Step two: Clean the cartridge contacts
  1. Lift the top cover. Figure 1: Lifting the top cover c00372271.gif
  2. Locate the ink cartridge indicated in the error message. Squeeze the gray tab below the cartridge slot to release the latch and then lift the latch. Figure 2: Unlatching the cartridge c00372272.gif 1 - Black cartridge 2 - Color cartridges

  4. Gather the following cleaning materials:
    • Distilled, filtered, or bottled water. Do not use tap water, alcohol, or platen cleaners.
    • Lint-free cloth or swab. Eyeglass wipes and coffee filters work well.
  5. Lightly moisten the swab or cloth and squeeze out the excess moisture.
  6. Holding the cartridge by its handle, wipe the copper contacts. Figure 4: Wiping the contacts c00372274.gif 1 - Copper contacts
  7. Replace the cartridge and then close the latch and the printer top cover.
  8. Check the printer for the error message. If the error message still displays, go to the next step.
    NOTE: The printer may take up to 15 seconds to clear the error and recognize the cartridge after closing the cover.
Step three: Replace the cartridge If the error message still displays, replace the indicated cartridge with a new cartridge.

Solution: Paper is jammed. Check for any obstructions under the unit's cover, and in the paper tray.

Solution: Press the ON button to turn off the Epson Stylus CX3200. Unlock the transportation lock, if necessary. If it is already unlocked, toggle the lock back and forth, 5-10 times. Turn on your Stylus CX3200 again.

Cartridge error


Dear customer,
According to Dell documentation, the Dell Personal Inkjet Printer J740 will display this error message if it detects a short circuit in one of its two ink cartridges. Solution:
To fix this problem, you’ll need to replace the faulty ink cartridge (it’s possible that both cartridges have a short circuit). First, press the Power button on the printer to turn it off and open its front cover. Turn the printer back on and wait for the ink cartridge to stop moving. Remove the color cartridge and close the front cover. If you receive the error message again, you’ll need to replace the black ink cartridge. Repeat this process for the color cartridge to test it for a short. If you continue to receive the error message, you’ll need to replace the color cartridge, too.

I just like to ask to where specifically you can see the red light. It will help us determine what cause the red light. To give you heads up as well, the Printer's LCD screen can help us determine what exactly the offline condition of the CX3200 is:
