The button is a relay switch and is an electronic component

Quite easy to replace, but you need to get parts from Janome Authorised Dealer

The reverser on my Janome 5124 from early 2000's is not an electronic switch. It is a mechanical lever that allows the feed dog cam to slide on a rod to reverse direction. In my case, I found that the grease on the rod had become thick with age and did not allow the reverse cam to slide freely. Therefore, it was stuck in forward with no reverse. By the same note, I believe it could "hang up" the other way as well. In other words, get stuck on the reverse side of the rod. Solution: this rod and cam is below the sewing bed, slightly to the right. You could try warming the hard grease with a hair dryer and vigorously actuating the reverse button to melt the grease and restore play in the cam. Though that's not what I did so I don't know if it would work. The bottom cover of the sewing bed comes off with a couple screws, exposing the mechanics inside. You may need to buy a service manual (google it) for around $10 so you can see how to remove multiple shrouds to be able to reach those screws. Once inside, spray some white lithium grease on the rod and reverser to dissolve the old grease and restore play. Put the shrouds back on and sew away. Caution: the screws needed to remove the shrouds are not intuitive. You really should buy the service manual...google it.

My elna 7000 sewing machine speed all of a sudden is very slow, does not work in reverse, or does not want to make any stiches? What can be wrong?

Looks like this is a mechanical machine. If so, bet it needs a good cleaning and oiling. The following may be helpful:

It was working now it seems to be frozen the needle part wont move

Definitely get some good quality sewing machine oil. Sounds like the machine has basically seized, including the stitch selectors.

Necchi 535FA is stuck in reverse, no matter what adjustments I change. I oiled and cleaned it and properly threaded it. Everything seems to work and move fine, except the reverse button was stuck.

A part of the Reverse Button mechanism is probably frozen.

This may work:
Direct heated air from a handheld hairdryer into the internal mechanism and let the metal parts get pretty hot. (Don't burn your fingers!) Then try the reverse button to see if it has loosened. Repeat and hopefully it will begin working. If you figure out where the reverse button mechanism is located, you can try lubricating the metal joints--ONLY 1-2 drops of GOOD quality sewing machine oil (do NOT use 3-in-1, WD-40, cooking oil, or OLD sewing machine oil). Then try the hairdryer again. Do NOT oil plastic parts or belts unless directed to in the owner's manual instructions.

Vintage Sewing Machines

To keep your machine sewing well, be sure to clean and oil on a regular basis--about every 8-12 hours of continuous sewing, every time you empty a bobbin, or if it's not in frequent use, every six months. Oil drying out is a frequent cause of machine moving parts freezing.

While sewing I reverse the stiches to go backwards and I wanted to reverse it forward again but it would not, after pressing the reverse button many times. Please advise.

1.)Have you oiled your machine lately? or had it serviced where they oiled it? In quite a few machines, lack of oil is a big culprit. Your machine gets thirsty!! :) Use your instruction manual to add the oil in the appropriate places. (Even new machines can have become dry before they are purchased.) 2.) Check your instructions to see if there is a remedy in the back of it. 3.) sometimes people make buttonholes on the machines that have the 4 step method on the front dial and forget to go back to step #1 after the end of the buttonhole and that leaves the machine in reverse for regular sewing. If those ideas don't work, I'd have a mechanic look at it. Good Luck.:)

My Nina model JE1918 sewing machine's stich selecter is stuck on one type of stich and can't move.

. If you have used it regularly sounds like a trip to a mechanic but if it has been in storage and has seized, try a little squirt of WD40 first and gently try to move the selector knob. It sounds as though it has either seized or caught on something internally.

My friend bought jenome sewing machine. It is working very well except that it only sew in reverse (backwards). Could it be that the reverse button got stuck or is there a setting that needs to be done?

button in centre of stitch length control is probably gummed up and stuck lubricate with penetrating oil and wind stich control backwards and forwards to see if centre knob starts to move. Remove arm top cover and do same to mechanism visible from above

The model I have looks like this one... All of a sudden it's not doing the zig zag stich. What could possibly be the problem? Thanks

I had this happen once and it was the needle shaft was slightly bent, (after loaning it to a relative) but yours may just be in need of oiling and working the needle shaft back and forth by hand. Another thing to try, take a hair dryer and heat all of the moving parts. Hopefully, this will work for you. Otherwise, it may be the timing, and you need a professional to look at it. Good luck, got my fingers crossed for you

I still don't understand this. I have acquiured a juki DDL 553 recently to discover I have no idea how to change the stitch length and that there is no reverse stitch. I have pressed the black button and have tried to turn the side?( the wheel?) but when i push down on the black button there is no way to turn the wheel it doesn't move, maybe there is some other part I'm supposed to be moving??

Button holer

Refer to step 5 in the instruction book. Turn the stich selector to the reverse arrow and back to the buttonhole symbol. This re-sets the machine.

Long stitch!!

Hi teza...I assume that you have decreased your stitch length selector resulting in no change, indicating that the internal stitch length mechanism is either insufficiently lubricated, or truly broken If not broken, you can work the mechanism free by removing your needle, selecting the maximum stitch length and any non-overlock stich pattern, ie. straight or zigzag, fully depress your foot pedal so it runs at maximum speed, and methodically press and release the Reverse button/lever. After a minute of this, hand crank your machine while observing the feed dogs, and changing your stitch length. If your stich length is set to 0, your should observe your feed dogs moving vertically up and down with no back/forward motion, however, increasing as you lengthen your stitch length. Repeat the previous high speed work out until you notice full strokes of your feed dog...good luck my friend
