The engine has been identified as an interference motor and that valve damage can be expected. To ask if it is worth repairing will depend on the vehicle condition as it is worthless replacing valves and doing the motor if the body work is scrap. If the car is in good condition then do the engine up. If you own the car then doing it up will be cheaper that getting another car as a car without an engine is worthless ( less than scrap value). This question can only be answered by you as you are the only person with all the information on which to make a decision. Get quotes from accredited engine repairers and the cost may be less than what you have been told. The repairs can be done in car and the car will be of the road about 2 days at most depending on who you get to do the job.
You can make far more breaking a vehicle for parts and selling them than you would think, and after everything is sold from the damaged shell you get scrap value for whats left. In most cases you can make more breaking the car for parts than repairing and selling it on. Take a look on Ebay etc for used parts for your vehicle it will give you an idea.
The price of scrap metal really depends on the economy. For a while I was constantly watching the stock ticker to predict when the best time to turn in scrap metal was. You can find most common metals listed in the stock index. http://www.macstraders.com
It could be, another scrapping against metal sound can be from the brake pads, hub protector plate touching the rotor bt a c-v joint sound is both metalic n clattering at d same time. Being physically present to hear the sound helps. Have a mechanic look at it to be sure which it is.
No some of these toyotsa batteries are a funny shape compared to the standard aftermarket ones so when i get this sort of problem i scavange my scrap/junk pile and make one depending on what type i need ,a few bits orf metal rod with something welded on works wonders .Just like the old days 40yrs ago on fleet truck repairs with bedford TK and ford traders or the old scalmmels
worth is a strange question....to whom??
you,the insurance company,or a scrap yard?.or maybe to someone who wants it for spares.
there has yet to be a court case for compensation for a car that has not got an insurance value with "agreed value" did you have agreed value for a classic car or did you not bother????cos you didnt know.....(everyone with a classic car has agreed value insurance, even me with a 1961 rover 90.
I know how you feel . if you put more money into it for trade in the best you can hope for is to break even maybe. If you scrap about $100 and if you sell on some where like craigslist without fixing you can get $400- $ 600 maybe more depending of cond... I guess it depends if you think its worth putting in more money.....
