Question about Creative Labs ZEN Vision:M Digital Media Player

1 Answer

Player Rebuilding/not displaying songs/ etc.

I have have my Zen Vision M for about 8 months now, and recently it has begun to rebuild the library (nearly) every time I turn the player on.

In addition, The 'Now Playing' screen only displays the startup "Select music to PLAY from the Music Library" dialog whenever there is music playing. And when it is in this state, the pause button does not work.

I should mention that the screen displays the station when in radio mode ( i have no videos on it, so i have no clue whether that works), and the same button that doesn't pause during playback still works to play the songs/ change from radio presents to manual tuning.

These problems have been going on for about 3 weeks, and I have tried 'clean up' and updating the firmware.

Also, i have had the annoying horizontal white stripes (i guess due to damage to the screen) for the past couple of months, and was wondering if there was any consensus about the feasibility or getting a replacement screen/ etc.

Re: Player Rebuilding/not displaying songs/ etc.

Sounds like you'll need to have it serviced, as you've already tried the firmware and clean up, and thats really all that you can do. If you scroll down on this page there is a box "Repair Service." Type in your zip code and bunch of repair companies come up. Just browse their sites for services and pricing.

Hi i cant see all my files on device( creative zen microphoto) and it does "rebuilding library" every time i turn it on(if it hasnt been on for a few hrs)?

The software will most likely need to be updated. You can download the software update from the manufacture's website, Or there may be an option on the player itself.
You can hook up to pc, then go to my computer, and then find your Zen and access files here as well.

Rebuilds Randomly

Do the following on the Vision:M and run a cleanup. First, enter into rescue mode by detaching the Zen Vision:M player from your PC , and making sure that the unit is off.
Then, Slide the power switch towards the power icon and hold the switch in the Power On position.
Next, Push the end of a straightened paper clip into the reset hole, and press gently and remove.
The recovery mode will come up, I would choose clean up, this will not erase anything.
Also, I make sure the player is off before you shake it, as you can damage the hard drive inside if it is on when you shake it.

Rebuilding everytime turned on, not registering when plugged in

i've got the same problem. several days ago it was in a condition where every power-on (after several hours of non-use) caused it to rebuild the database. i thought the mp3 tags were at fault since i had seen this earlier on thie zen vision:m 30gb, but i had fixed the situation at that time by fixing all of the tags. i hadn't had the problem for months... at least until last week.

so, i rebooted the zen into the utility (?) mode where I did a chkdsk (or whatever its called). that didn't fix the problem.

i then started having another problem. I could select a track, an artist, or album and the music would play, but i could not skip forward or back into the song or to the next song. the now playing screen told me to select music (even while music was playing) but it would not display the track details.

i tried connecting to my computer and the autorun dialog comes up asking if I want to start media player, etc. any of the options that i select tell me that the device cannot be found. it recognizes the USB connection otherwise it wouldn't tell me that I have a zen and want to start the media player, but the applications don't know what to do with it. i see the same behavior with media explorer, mediamonkey and other apps. I cannot use Explorer to browse the zen file system either.

i tried to reload the firmware, but the device could not be recognized.

i went to the utility menu to format the drive, but i still cannot connect -- and I no longer have any music.

i reset all settings. still no improvement.

i installed the software onto another computer and i see the same behavior... it sees the device when i plug it into USB, but the applications do not see the device.

any ideas??

Creative Zen Doesn't Recognize Music

Turn off your player. Push in the reset and turn it on. You should get the reboot menu. Click on CLEAN. If it doesn't work, then REFORMAT after backing up your data. You can also reget the firmware from Zen website.

Rebuilding Library

Corrupt DB, firmware to reolve on creative website

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

Not rebuilding Library all the way

1. Press and hold the Play button while powering on your player.

2. When the player displays the Creative logo, release the Play button.
It will display the following options:

Scans the player and removes invalid links from its music library.
