Discontinued Majestic dvhvac36 fireplace. crack on top of firebox (combustion chamber?) between 2 round "padded" filters? Will need to be replaced. wondering if anybody had the same situation?

i would say it would be a common issue as unit firebox
ages heats and cools ..so often
if you cant buy the casing or
find a used unit for sale with a good casing

depending on which material in the casing is made of
if metal or aluminum
welding the crack or a patch repair
may be possible because it is at the top of the unit
if cast iron needs a special pre- heating method of repair
or a new casting made

Needs new engine

The cost of a salvage engine depends on the popularity.
Probably around $1000 or so, based on the year. But if they used the engine over a long period of time, it could sell for less. But I am not all that familiar. You could also always buy a whole wreck yourself and parts the rest out. Could even turn a profit if you have a place to keep it and don't mind lots of Craigslist customers emailing you.

Air flow meter

Air sensor for 99 Protege 1.6L, might be applicable to your car as well.

There are two screws on top of the sensor, which should be located past the filter on the air intake. Remove the screws carfeully and pull the sensor out. If you look through the sensor, there should be a tiny element, use throttle body cleaner to blast any deposits off the element, and clean other parts of the sensor while your at it. Just be careful and don't physically contact the element.

The cars computer detects the amount of energy required to heat that element up to a certain temperature, and relates that power requirement to the amount of air flowing by (air temperature and pressure is also measured by the computer). When the element gets dirty, it becomes insulated and the calculations are affected, which will cause the car to hesitate on acceleration. Fuel economy is also affected.

You might hear from people that this part can't be cleaned, I've been doing it for the last 4 years and it is the best 'tune up' you can do for the car, it will run like new!
